Merchant Taylors’, Liverpool has a long and distinguished history as a leading school in the region. Based on over four hundred years of tradition, we aspire to be a forward-thinking and progressive centre of learning.
We are seeking to recruit a permanent, part time inspirational and enthusiastic Teacher of Classics to start employment in September 2023 teaching boys and girls across our senior schools. The role involves teaching Latin and Classical Civilisation up to A Level; the ability to teach Greek (to GCSE or A Level) would also be an advantage. The Classics Department at Merchant Taylors’ has a history of excellence and we are proud to be one of the few schools in Merseyside still offering the full range of classical subjects: Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation.
We want you to be excellent at what you do because we will expect superb teaching at all levels of the school; we therefore want to help you to develop to become an outstanding practitioner both in and outside the classroom. We aspire to identify and encourage the strengths of each and every student we teach, and for this reason we expect staff to be able to develop both an academic and pastoral relationship with their students.
The successful candidate will be knowledgeable, enthusiastic and dedicated to the holistic approach to learning that we pride ourselves in at Merchant Taylors’. Therefore, you should be prepared to contribute fully towards the School’s extracurricular and co-curricular programmes.
The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:
· The provision of a safe environment in which children and young people feel heard
· Being aware of the indicators of abuse and neglect
· Ensuring vigilance in recognising changes in behaviour or mood
· Reporting safeguarding concerns in line with the School’s Safeguarding Children and Child Protection Policy
· Attending Safeguarding training and updates as requested by the School
The duties of this role meet the definition of regulated activity relevant to children and an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list is appropriate.
School Safeguarding Statement
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo safeguarding checks appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
