Chesterton Community College is a dynamic, inspirational 11-16 academy close to Cambridge City Centre. The Computer Science Department offers the successful candidate the opportunity to work in a collegiate, highly supportive and high achieving environment.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of Computer Science to join our successful and enthusiastic team. Our department delivers excellent exam results, with students making exceptional progress when judged against local and national standards. Students benefit from a rich curriculum, taught in specialist classrooms alongside a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities. As a school, we are innovative in realising the potential of all our students. We are at the forefront of e-learning and all students in Years 8-11 use their own iPad to learn in an engaging way.

This is an exciting time to join our vibrant college with the expansion of our Trust, a new build planned, and two new free schools in pre-opening. There will be excellent opportunities for career development and progression.

Cambridge is home to a vast range of high technology businesses with many world-leading companies operating here. Computer Science is hugely important in this internationally renowned high tech city that innovates, creates, inspires and changes the world on a regular basis. Chesterton benefits from hugely from the opportunities that this brings; from competitions and projects like Go4Set and FXP in which our students have had unparalleled success in recent years.  We have excellent links with industry, having worked in the past with, Raspberry Pi Foundation, Qualcomm, ARM and many others.

The development of the Computer Science curriculum and the success of students in both curriculum and extra curricular activities is central to the heart of the school leadership. A long standing governor, recently appointed to the board of trustees, is the highly acclaimed Simon Peyton Jones, a founder of the Computing At School organization. CAS has been instrumental in pushing forward a Computer Science curriculum to help fill the growing technological skills gap in the UK and Simon remains hugely passionate and supportive about the critical role that Computer Science should take in schools.

The successful candidate will have the ability to enthuse and engage students. They will be a key member of the team and will add to the team’s success by delivering Computer Science in innovative and creative ways.
