 Would you like to develop your career as a teacher of Computer Science in an excellent school, underpinned by our values of “Love, Respect and Flourish”? Required for September 2023, an inspiring and tenacious teacher to join our popular Computer Science department on a part time basis (0.6 FTE). This role is equally suitable for an experienced teacher or an ECT. Computer Science is a popular subjects at all Key Stages at St Mary’s, with established courses at both GCSE and A-Level. 

Computer Science at St Mary’s envisions a future in which students critically engage in public discussion on computer science topics; develop as learners, users, and creators of computer science knowledge and artifacts; better understand the role of computing in the world around them; and use technology to learn, perform, and express themselves in other subjects and interests. Do you have the skills, knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm to be part of this small but important department, to equip students with valuable skills that will pervade across the curriculum and for life? Students and enjoy learning and being able to gain valuable skills in Computer Science throughout KS3, 4 and 5 with students going on to the study Computer Science degrees or other degrees, apprenticeships or employment with a significant computer science element.

Our latest surveys show that 96% of staff enjoy their work at St Marys, 97% agree that leaders do all they can to ensure a motivated and respected staff, 100% of students enjoy their learning and believe that behaviour around the school is good, and 97% of parents would recommend St. Mary’s to other parents. Added to this, the school is also at an extremely exciting juncture in its future. We are a founding member in the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy Trust formed on 1st September 2021. Demand is high and we are heavily oversubscribed. We have also won over £7.5m in capital bids in recent years and are enjoying brand new cutting-edge facilities as a result. The school faces an extremely strong and positive financial future.

In 1896, five Sisters from the Belgian congregation of St Mary of Namur came to Bishop's Stortford and established a school with just 9 students.  These pioneering Sisters were the first to provide Catholic education for the district, and the school rapidly became a success. Their legacy is St Mary’s Catholic School, and as we look to the future with high expectations for continued success, their vision continues to inspire us. This is expressed in our aspiration towards academic excellence founded on Gospel values. In practical terms this also means the best possible pastoral care and guidance and the challenge and support of a broad range of spiritual opportunities which permeate through all aspects of school life.
