Job overview

We are looking to appoint an ambitious and enthusiastic teacher of Computer Science to join our team.

This is an exciting time to join the Computer Science department as the academy launches a specialist gifted STEM stream focussing on getting the best out of our top STEM students in Maths, Science and Computer Science.  At the same time our students continue to succeed at both GCSE and A level studies in Computer Science, with most of the A level students going on to study Computer Science at university.

Our academy is transformational for young people.  We were judged to be 'Good' by Ofsted in February 2016, and since then results have continued to improve with students making above average progress

United Learning is a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone. Our vision is to provide excellent education so that all young people are able to make a success of their lives and, if we are to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the key ingredient – you.

Wherever your location, we invite applications from NQT’s looking to start an exciting new career or from experienced teachers looking for a new and highly desirable opportunity.

If you are seeking a role which will make a difference not only to our students and the wider community but will also look after your wellbeing and personal development, this is the role for you.

We will offer you:

  • An exciting role in a successful oversubscribed Academy
  • An opportunity to make a difference in the community
  • Ongoing professional training and development as well as networking opportunities throughout the group of Academies and United Learning.

The post is being advertised with a closing date of 25th September, however we would like potential applicants to apply as soon as possible and reserve the right to withdraw the advert should we interview and appoint a suitable candidate earlier than the advertised closing date or extend the closing date should there not be a suitable pool of candidates by this date.

Northampton Academy is committed to equal opportunities and to the protection and safety of all students and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share these commitments.

The post will be subject to an enhanced DBS Disclosure.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted in all areas in March 2023. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION, AMBITION, TOLERANCE and INTEGRITY. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Quality Mark Plus that was awarded in November 2021.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons.  To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

  • A genuine ‘flexi-working’ approach with at least one opportunity a week to come in late or leave early for every teaching member of staff
  • No unannounced observations
  • No lesson grading
  • 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
  • A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally
