Bristol Cathedral Choir School
Teacher of Computing and ICT (with Business Studies)
CST Pay Spine - Main Scale
Full-time / Part-time
Required from 1st September 2018
Teacher of Computing and ICT
Applications are welcome from newly qualified or experienced teachers to join the School to teach Computing and ICT to GCSE and IT at KS3 with the additional ability to offer another subject, preferably Business Studies although we would consider other subjects or pastoral experience. Applications are invited from charismatic, enthusiastic and suitably qualified teachers for this exciting, rewarding and demanding post.
Founded in the 12th century and then re-established by Henry VIII in 1542, BCCS is now an academy with Mathematics and Music as specialisms. The Cathedral Choristers are educated at the school and the community meets for weekly assemblies in the Cathedral. BCCS accepts students from all over Bristol and we are proud of our diverse, tolerant and respectful community which reflects Bristol’s demographic.
“The ethos and culture of the academy are outstanding. Pupils from a wide and diverse range of backgrounds, faiths, beliefs and values come together in an exceptionally harmonious environment where all are respected, valued and supported to do well.” Ofsted 2016.
The school received an overall judgement of “Outstanding” from Ofsted in January 2016 and is the most oversubscribed school in Bristol, with a trend of strong results in public examinations at both GCSE and A level.
As a Teaching School, we are able to offer a coherent, high quality programme of continuing professional development. In addition, there may be the opportunity to progress towards designation as a Specialist Leader of Education, depending on the individual career history of the candidate.
We are looking to appoint an excellent classroom practitioner with creative ideas for developing pedagogy within the department and school. You will be expected to teach at all Key Stages and therefore experience of teaching exam courses is an advantage. The ability to teach Business GCSE or BTEC would be an advantage, but not essential.
Teachers have a role within the pastoral system.
The Computing and ICT Curriculum
The department currently offers OCR Computing GCSE and Cambridge Nationals ICT as well as following an in-house KS 3 IT curriculum and work closely with the Maths and Business Studies departments.
Current uptake is strong at KS 4 and we would be interesting in exploring further developments of the department across the school.
Applicants should have a high regard for positive classroom management; the ability to work flexibly, with good humour and as part of a team would be essential. We would very much value the ability to contribute diverse teaching strategies. The ability to contribute to other co-curricular areas of BCCS life (eg Team Sports, Music, Drama, Equalities or other co-curricular activities to be agreed) will be desirable.
Further information about the school can be found on our website www.bccs.bristol.sch.uk
Applications should be received as soon as possible and by midday on Sunday 8th April 2018 at the latest.
Interviews will be held on Monday 16th April 2018.
Please note that all posts at the School are subject to initial and periodic checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service as the school takes every measure possible to ensure the safeguarding of its students.
