Welcome to the energy, enthusiasm and excellence that is The Newbridge School. We aim to create a thriving learning community in which every individual can achieve their highest standards.

We can do this because we care passionately about the progress and development of every student’s journey into adult life, and work in partnership with all those who share in this enterprise.

Newbridge is a currently mixed 11-16 comprehensive Academy. There are just over 500 students on roll. The school is situated in a pleasant residential area of Coalville on a site that offers panoramic views towards Bardon Hill. We are however about to embark on an exciting new era for the school; along with our Trust Partners The Castle Rock School. This is incredibly exciting for us and we look forward to seeing the fruits of our labour and celebrate the successful GCSE outcomes for all our students in the future.

Coalville, set on the edge of Charnwood Forest and part of the National Forest, is the administrative centre of North West Leicestershire. Once the heart of the Leicestershire Coalfield, Coalville is now emerging as an area for industrial ventures, especially those connected with transport and distribution.

Newbridge draws students from five main feeder primary schools in Coalville and the surrounding villages of Hugglescote, Swannington and Thringstone. Students study all national curriculum subjects taught in suites of classrooms or specialist facilities. Provision of ICT equipment is generous and also includes a student iPad leasing scheme. All curriculum areas have at interactive whiteboard installed in. Excellent ICT technical support is offered to staff and students.

Each area of the curriculum is taught by specialist teams, and these teams form a cohesive whole enabling the progress and development of the whole child to be kept in sight. In addition to teaching their own subject, teachers are also Tutors, taking their Form through from Year 7 to Year 9 under the leadership of three of the Pastoral Managers. They are well supported by highly professional teams of Cover Supervisors, Learning Support Assistants, Technicians and the rest of our large support staff team. At Newbridge we value the worth of all our staff and recognise the part everyone plays in students’ learning and personal development.

In February 2017 the school was inspected by Ofsted, who deemed that Newbridge continued to be a Good school.

Some of the report findings are summerised below:

  • Parents praised the excellent pastoral support at the school. One wrote, ‘Every child matters at this school. They should be proud of what they have achieved.’
  • Staff  take swift and appropriate action in response to any concerns they have about pupils’ welfare.
  • The quality of teaching is consistently good. Teachers use their good subject  knowledge to ensure that pupils develop the skills and understanding they need to be successful.
  • You have worked effectively with partner schools to develop your own system of  assessment that promotes pupils’ progress across different phases of  education.
  • In our observations of learning, pupils concentrated well and there was no evidence of  any low-level disruption.

We seek to instil in children positive attitudes, a sense of purpose, high standards of work and behaviour, and high self-esteem. Newbridge is a school for the community and values the relationship it has with all who cross through the door!

The Apollo Partnership Trust - Excellence through Partnership

In November 2017 The Newbridge School joined with The Castle Rock School and Broom Leys Primary School to form a multi-academy trust. Strong ties were already in place between the three schools and it has opened the doors to many opportunities for both staff and students and will undoubtedly continue to do so into the future.
