Blairgowrie High School

Due to an increasing school roll, an opportunity has arisen for a motivated teacher of Computing and IT.

The successful applicant will be joining one of the first secondary schools to achieve the Digital Schools Award. Although the Department is small, it has a big impact and, working alongside colleagues in the Business Education department, our BGE curriculum is being refreshed to enhance digital and computing skills of all of our young people. With a high degree of success in ensuring young people enter positive destinations, the school takes account of labour market intelligence to ensure our curriculum is varied and up-to-date whilst reflecting the needs of the marketplace.

Blairgowrie High School currently has a roll of approximately 800 young people. Working together we strive to encourage and help all young people to ASPIRE to be the best they can. We aim to provide a positive learning environment for staff and pupils and our school motto is “Learning together today to shape the world of tomorrow”.

Blairgowrie High School is the sole secondary school for Eastern Perthshire, and covers a wide catchment area of beautiful landscapes. To the West we extend almost to Dunkeld; to the North our area stretches up Glenshee past the Spittal, to the border with Aberdeenshire Council; to the East our area extends to the Angus border and finally to the South-East, Tullybaccart – the highest point on the road between Coupar Angus and Dundee – is our boundary with Dundee Council. The area offers an attractive range of leisure activities. Although the town and its immediate area provides a wealth of pastimes we are approximately 14 miles and equidistant from Dundee in one direction and Perth in the other.

The Individual

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who will contribute positively to the growth of the department.

Whether you are new to the profession or an experienced teacher we are looking for a restorative practitioner who seeks solutions and strives to do the best for our young people. If you have an innovative approach to engaging young people and instilling a love of computing then this may be the job for you. Curriculum choices offered by the department are growing and includes, for example, robotics, digital media, games development, cyber security and of course computing science.
