Job overview

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

Beeslack High School is a non-denominational secondary which serves the communities extending from the north of Penicuik towards Loanhead and is the secondary school associated with Glencorse, Mauricewood and Roslin Primary schools.

The roll of the school in August 2015 was 700 pupils.

The school, which was founded in 1984, is situated in the beautiful grounds of a spacious 17.5 acre site, formerly part of the estate of Beeslack House, and is a highly attractive and inspiring setting for young people to learn and develop. Each session we get a high number of placing requests from pupils outwith our catchment.

We provide secondary education for young people aged 11-18 years where effective partnership working has been a key element of the drive to improve outcomes for young people. Beeslack also provides an excellent resource for the local community through its long-established and highly valued community education programme.

Beeslack Community High School offers pupils a range of opportunities to develop their skills for learning, life and work both through the curriculum and our extensive range of extra-curricular activities. In S1 -3 pupils follow a broad general education in 8 curricular areas. In the senior phase pupils have the opportunity to study for a range of qualifications at N3,4,5, Higher and Advanced Higher level with approx 47% of S6 pupils progressing their studies at college or university. Following a review of our Curriculum we are embarking on a very exciting journey in extending the learning opportunities for our young people in school, Midlothian and beyond.
