Job overview

Queen Ethelburga’s is an Independent Collegiate of four co-educational schools. Located in North Yorkshire between the towns of York and Harrogate, we offer outstanding facilities and motivated students who join us with a broad range of academic, social and cultural backgrounds. We pride ourselves on being a happy community where students can grow to reach their full potential, both academically and socially. To meet the needs of our students we offer a wide choice of qualifications, a supportive environment and an exciting programme of extra–curricular opportunities, which are underpinned by high quality teaching and learning. The school actively promotes the professional development of its staff through induction, CPD and career development opportunities.

The postholder will join the department at an exciting time, as co-curricular opportunities are being developed alongside the academic curriculum, providing career development and varied responsibilities. Although the post is to cover maternity leave, we anticipate that further opportunities will become available in the department as the curricular and co-curricular provision develops, which means that a further permanent role may be possible in due course. In addition, the opportunity for a departmental management role may be possible for the right candidate.

The postholder will provide outstanding teaching, maintaining the high standards of the Collegiate.  The duties and responsibilities for the role are as follows:

• Deliver Dance and Drama lessons to KS3

• Deliver the GCSE and A Level Dance syllabus

• Provide lunch time, evening and weekend activities and develop the range of opportunities for our students

• Assist with the dance requirements of the numerous productions on site, this includes our annual Gym and Dance show which features cast members from Strictly Come Dancing working alongside our staff and students

• Provide optional 1-2-1 dance lessons in a variety of disciplines

• Good honours degree in specialist subject, with PGCE or QTS

• Good knowledge and teaching experience in a wide variety of dance style

• Ability to teach to a variety of group sizes, from private solo lessons upwards

There are currently 40 x 35 min lessons per week of which 34 are timetabled (please note the school day is under review for September 2019).  There is a regular Saturday morning Academy for the Performing Arts which we are seeking to expand. The postholder will be expected to offer evening and weekend tuition slots. We teach for 34 weeks of the academic year.

QE is committed to ensuring a safe environment for its pupils and staff. Applicants will be required to provide proof of identity and undergo the relevant DBS checks for their role. The post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the Collegiate’s Child Protection Policy and Staff Code of Conduct at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school s/he must report any concerns to the Collegiate’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Any personal information you share with us on your application form will be used solely for recruitment purposes. Your details will be held for up to 6 months and destroyed after this time.

We receive high volumes of applications, due to this if you have not heard from us within two weeks of your application, unfortunately on this occasion your application will not have been successful.

Please note this role will be closed on the 3rd March 2019 12pm. Interviews to be held soon after.
