Teacher of Design and Technology (Engineering)
MPS / UPS
Full time, permanent position.
November 1st start date. Candidates who are able to start in September are also encouraged to apply.
Lincoln UTC is a unique learning environment. We are a 14 to 18 specialist college for science, technology, engineering and maths. Most visitors to the college assume (wrongly) that we are either a selective or a fee-paying private school. This misunderstanding initially stems from the stunning buildings we are fortunate enough to work in. Our Victorian, listed building at the front is reminiscent of Hogwarts. To the rear of the site, our state of the art laboratories and workshops are housed in an equally impressive, but totally contrasting, £9 million new build. The atmosphere within the college is just as impressive as the physical learning environment. Our students don’t wear uniform. They all (right down to year 10) wear business dress. They look like adults and they behave like adults. This is an unusually calm, purposeful and respectful learning community. You really need to come on a visit to fully appreciate how different this is from ordinary schools.
We are a very small learning community with just over 50 students in each of the four year groups (200 students) in total. Our class sizes tend to be smaller than average. All of our students have chosen to come here because they are interested in and want to specialise in science and engineering and maths. In 2017 Lincoln UTC was the highest performing Post 16 provider in all of Lincolnshire (value added score for A Level +0.63, more than twice as high as the next closest school). The 2018 A Level League tables are yet to be published but, based on this year’s results, we expect to be in the top 3 Lincolnshire schools (we might not quite hold the top spot).
Product design and engineering are at the core of what we do and our students are passionate about these subjects. In Key Stage 4 all students do a minimum of two engineering qualifications (OCR Nationals in Engineering Design and Engineering Manufacture). Most of our students take a third (Engineering Systems and Control) as their option choice. In Key Stage 5 half of our students take the three A Level equivalent BTEC in engineering. For the last two years we have had 100% success rates in engineering with 70% of students achieving distinction grades.
The staff team are hardworking, friendly and supportive and totally committed to making a success of the UTC. It is a small staff team with only eighteen teachers (four within the engineering faculty).
The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record in teaching engineering or design and technology to KS4 and KS5.
If you would like to find out more about the college or about this position please contact the Principal, John Morrison, for an informal chat on 01522 775990. We would welcome (indeed encourage) visits to the college so that you can see for yourself what we have to offer. Equally, we understand that this is not always possible and we will not view applications from candidates who have not visited less favourably.
Completed application forms should be returned to firstname.lastname@example.org
Closing Date: Noon – Monday 8th July 2019
