This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated teacher to contribute to the continued success of Design and Technology at Habs, working within a collaborative and high-achieving team.

About the Department

Design and Technology is a thriving and popular subject at Habs, taught by a team of five specialist teachers and supported by a full-time technician. The subject is delivered from our outstanding Design Centre, which includes:

Pupils enjoy a wide-ranging and hands-on curriculum, and many go on to compete in national competitions such as VEX Robotics, F1 in Schools, and Greenpower Racing. The department also supports several students each year in gaining Arkwright Scholarships.

Curriculum

The Design and Technology curriculum is broad, modern and ambitious:

  •     In Years 7 and 8, students engage with topics including sustainability, robotics, inclusive design, and mechanics.
  •      In Year 9, pupils build strong foundations for the OCR GCSE Design and Technology course.
  •      At A Level, we offer pathways in Product Design and Design Engineering, both of which are highly subscribed.

The department places a strong emphasis on technical skills, creative thinking, and iterative design processes. Staff work collaboratively to share resources and continually refine the curriculum.

Haberdashers' Boys' School is a large independent school located in the village of Elstree, Hertfordshire. Founded in 1690, the all-through school educates around 1,200 boys aged 5-18, all of whom are day pupils.

The School has a selective admissions policy, with prospective students for the senior school expected to pass entrance exams across a range of subjects. The best-performing boys are interviewed to ascertain their suitability for a place at the School. Entrance to the pre-prep and prep departments is also selective, with assessed playgroup sessions and exams used depending on the boy’s age.
