Job overview

The de Ferrers Academy has gained a reputation for high levels of academic achievement, demonstrated by the fact that the 2016 results at GCSE and A-level are the best on record.  We have a positive ethos and excellent staff/student relationships, we value our staff and are committed to their personal and professional development.    In recent years, the Academy has developed a national reputation for innovation and success in Learning technologies and ICT.   The Academy is an Apple Regional Training Centre, with 1:1 use of iPads for all Key Stage 4 and 5 students.

The Faculty has a strong tradition of excellence and innovation within all areas of Design & Technology. The compulsory programme of study that is offered to Key Stage 3 students is innovative and dynamic. Students at Key Stage 4 are offered a  wide range of GCSE subjects to choose from and at Key Stage 5 we offer Product Design:3D and  Product Design: Textiles

Students at Key Stage 3 are introduced to Design and Technology at The Academy through foundation courses in all material areas in which they develop a range of new and exciting skills and knowledge.  These initial modules prepare students for their extended modules, which they complete in Year 8.  Year 9 students have the opportunity to specialise in material areas further in preparation for Key Stage 4. The modules that students undertake at Key Stage 3 enable them to embark on ‘real life’ design situations and prepare students for the new Pathways at GCSE.

At Key Stage 4 we currently offer the following GCSE courses; AQA Food Preparation and Nutrition and the new AQA Design and Technology course.  At Key Stage 5 we currently deliver AQA Product Design: Graphics/3D and have the facilities to offer AQA Product Design: Textiles.

All prospective candidates are very welcome to visit the Academy, to tour and meet with members of the faculty, and meet with our students.  We are situated on the rural outskirts of Burton upon Trent, within easy access of Birmingham, Nottingham and Derby.  As the Academy of choice for the local area, you will feel part of a supported community and, most importantly, a warm and friendly environment in which to educate our young people.  We offer an employee reward package which includes car leasing discounts and our own independent travel consultant.

This role offers an exceptional opportunity to the successful candidate.   If you wish to join this dynamic Academy, we look forward to hearing from you.   A full job description and application forms can be accessed via the Academy’s website, or alternatively please contact Samantha Lawless on 01283 247700.   Please note completed applications should be received by 9:00 am on the closing date.

Closing date: Friday 8th February 2019
