Priestnall School is a popular, over-subscribed 11-16 school situated in the pleasant residential area of Heaton Mersey, Stockport. Our community benefits from wonderful students and a hardworking and committed staff.

We are currently seeking to appoint a permanent Teacher of Design and Technology to join our school. The position offers a unique opportunity to make a major contribution towards our continued high achievement. Our Design and Technology subject area delivers a vibrant and engaging curriculum at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. This popular and valued subject achieves excellent examination results on a consistent basis across a range of subject areas and Key Stage 4 qualifications. Knowledge and experience of teaching KS3 and KS4 Design & Technology is essential and KS4 Engineering is desirable for this post.

The Design and Technology Department

The department consists of 6 Design and Technology teachers and 1 Technician. There are 3 workshops, 1 Food Room, 1 Textiles room and 2 ICT Suites. All rooms are fully equipped and Design and Technology is a valued and well-run department. We have 1 laser cutter, 1 3D printer and 1 CAD milling machine.

At Key Stage 3, all students are currently taught in mixed ability groups – currently 2 periods per week. Groups are taught a range of skills within projects. Year 7 rotate around 6 projects that cover Product Design, Graphics, Textiles and Food. Year 8 and 9 rotate around 5 projects covering the same areas.

Design and Technology is very popular at Key Stage 4. Students follow the AQA specification syllabus in GCSE Design and Technology, the Eduqas specification syllabus in both GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition and level 1/2 Hospitality and Catering and the AQA (Art) Graphics Communication and Textiles specifications. From September we will be introducing the new Cambridge National qualification in Engineering Design.

The department has excellent schemes of work which enable the team to deliver engaging and dynamic lessons. These align with the school’s goals and the National Curriculum. The schemes of work include standardised homework and assessment tasks, to manage colleagues' workload. Student attainment is extremely good across the KS4 option courses, contributing to the schools excellent outcomes.

Priestnall is situated in Heaton Mersey, a suburb in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, bordering the Manchester Local Authority – notably, Burnage. The school serves the communities of the ‘Four Heatons’: Mersey, Chapel, Moor and Norris. Priestnall is a non-selective, non-denominational, ten form entry 11-16 secondary school, there are approximately 1250 pupils on roll. The school is part of the Laurus Trust (September 2023), a multi-academy trust, whose shared vision provides the framework and core values for our secondary schools.

Our 2023 GCSE results showed 74% of students achieved both English and Maths GCSEs at grades 4 – 9 and 56% achieved this measure at the gold standard, ‘strong’ pass of grade 5 and better. 16% of students succeeded at grades 7 -9. 24% of the total grades achieved were at grades 7 – 9 and 61% of grades were at 5 – 9.
