Job overview

St Dominic’s School is a special academy in Surrey and provides exceptional education for pupils and students aged 7-19 typically with a primary diagnosis of Speech Language & Communication Needs and/or Autistic Spectrum Condition. The school is located in Hambledon, close to Witley, Milford, Guildford and Godalming.

We are part of Orchard Hill College & Academy Trust (OHC&AT), a specialist Trust with 12 Academies and 7 College Centres across London, Surrey and Sussex.

At St Dominic’s we believe passionately in a multi-disciplinary, ‘needs led’ approach to meeting each child’s and young person’s needs, resulting in carefully managed groupings, including specialist intervention work from our in house therapeutic team.

The school works closely in partnership with families, referring authorities and external agencies to coordinate the best possible education, care, guidance and support for its pupils and students.

St Dominic’s has been through a period of rapid growth and change. We are therefore seeking dynamic and committed staff, who share our organisational values, to work alongside our newly appointed leadership team.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-driven, flexible and talented Teacher of Design & Technology to work with the pupils and students throughout the school across Key Stages 2 to 5.

Candidates must be able to independently plan, prepare and deliver ongoing and informative lessons that progress the pupils and students towards the achievement of GCSE Design & Technology (Resistant Materials) and BTEC Construction from Entry Level to Level 2.

BTEC Construction contains many different practical units so experience in basic plumbing, painting and decorating, bricklaying, carpentry and plastering and experience of delivering BTEC qualifications previously would be desirable but not essential.

Candidates must be able to convey the subject to pupils and students who have a range of abilities and be able to monitor and assess to ensure the best possible progress. The successful candidate will have a commitment to developing outstanding practice and the desire and drive to improve educational outcomes and life chances for our very special pupils and students.

Applications are welcome from UQTs, NQTs and experienced teachers who have the ability to think creatively and are resilient and motivated by challenges.

Experience of working within a SEN setting is desirable but not essential.

Benefits include: Free car parking, Lunch provided on site, Employee Assistance Programme and membership to Perkbox.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Steph Chown, Head of Upper School, by email at schown@stdominicsschool.org.uk

Please contact Theresa Jones by email at tjones@stdominicsschool.org.uk for further information or to arrange a visit to the school.

Please note that CV applications will not be considered.

Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointments made will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
