Job overview

“A Good School with Outstanding Behaviour and Safety and Outstanding Leadership and Management.” Ofsted December 2013

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified teacher of Drama and Performing Arts who has a real passion for the subject and who is capable of teaching across all Key Stages.  The post would equally suit a newly qualified or experienced teacher who has obtained a good degree in Drama or related discipline.  The ability or willingness to also teach English, Dance or a humanities subject is desirable although not essential.  For NQTs, three weeks’ work in July is offered as an induction to the school.

Our students are enthusiastic, motivated and seek to reach the high expectations we have of them.  The Drama Department teaches KS3 students once per week and is a popular choice at GCSE, with results consistently well above the national average (84% A*-C Summer 2017, 32% A*-A with Edexcel, currently moved to AQA).  Smaller groups of students go on to study Drama at A Level (AQA).  We also recruit healthy classes of BTEC Performing Arts Technical Award in KS4.

Vyners is a very popular and oversubscribed mixed six form entry, 11-18 comprehensive school, situated in a pleasant residential area in North West London, bordering Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.    We have a track record of real success at all Key Stages.  A school record of 84% of students achieved grades 9-4 in both English and Maths at GCSE in 2017 and we were ranked in the top 10% of all schools nationally for progress measures and attainment in 2016.  At A Level 30% of all grades were A* - A and 55% A* - B.  The school converted to academy status on 1 November 2011 and is the lead school in the Vyners Learning Trust which also includes a primary school.

We are well known for high academic standards, good behaviour, and our strong community spirit including a strong house system with students leading their peers.  “Behaviour and attitudes are exceptional” (Ofsted 2013). Many students are involved in extracurricular sport, music and drama, performing at a high level including prestigious public events and performing in our own school productions.

We offer you:

 • A well established and well respected Continual Professional Development program.

 • Creative opportunities and mentoring for continual career progression.

• A friendly, innovative and exciting community in which to work.

 • A lively, friendly and supportive team of specialist Science teachers achieving excellent results.

• A comprehensive and first class new employee induction programme.

 • An annual two day Staff Conference with excellent keynote speakers.

• Excellent facilities including Interactive whiteboards, onsite gym, ample car parking and access to local transport.

Start Date:                  no later than 1 September 2018 Closing date for Applications:    9.00am Monday 16 April 2018  (early applications will be considered)

Vyners School is committed to safeguarding all of its students.  All staff are required to adhere to our safeguarding policies and procedures and undertake a full enhanced DBS check.

Vyners School is a non-denominational, mixed secondary school and sixth form located in Ickenham, in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

The school is named after Sir Robert Vyner, who was a Lord Mayor of London and lived nearby. It first opened its doors as a grammar school in early 1960, and later became a comprehensive school. It gained academy status in 2011 and has around 1,200 students aged 11-18.

Values and vision

The Vyners School values were developed by governors, students, parents and staff in 2013. They are: community, aspiration, respect and endeavour. Vyners School encourages students to be resilient, unafraid to take calculated risks and make mistakes. Its values, the school hopes, will help pupils to stretch themselves, because the most valuable learning often takes place outside their comfort zone.

The school seeks to blend a 21st-century education with more traditional behavioural and uniform standards. It aims to produce rounded and grounded young people who will make a positive contribution to the world. Vyners School specialises in mathematics and computing.

Ofsted report

“Students achieve well and their attainment is well above average and improving in nearly all subjects and for most groups.  Teaching is good and improving rapidly. This is recognised by parents, carers and students."

“The best lessons are ambitious, helping students to work things out for themselves and achieve their very best.  Behaviour and attitudes are exceptional. All students and parents and carers are clear that the school is a safe place to learn. Relationships are positive and students embrace their learning with enthusiasm.”
