You will be a well-qualified and inspiring teacher with outstanding subject knowledge. You will be able to teach Drama confidently from Year 7 through to GCSE and have experience of directing large-scale productions, whether in a professional, school or amateur context so that you are able to direct one full-scale production a year. The ability to teach Drama at A-level is desirable. You should have experience of using a range of teaching and learning strategies and be able to offer enthusiasm for your subject and excellent pupil results at all levels. A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular programme and support the pastoral life of our School is essential.

You will join the experienced Drama department, who has an excellent track record of supporting pupils to achieve outstanding results. In 2024, our GCSE Drama (AQA) pupils achieved 2 grades higher than their baseline predictions with 89% of grades at 7 or above. Drama (Edexcel) is also a popular A-level subject. In 2024, 67% of grades were at B or above.

The Drama department consists of 4 members of staff, including a dedicated technician. The subject is taught in our Performing Arts Centre, which includes a well-equipped drama studio and auditorium. The school has a strong culture of collaboration and support with colleagues working closely to develop one another’s subject knowledge and pedagogy. We are particularly proud of the three school productions that we stage each year; two musicals and a play. This year includes Chicago, The Tempest and The Little Shop of Horrors. We also offer LAMDA classes and run numerous theatre trips.

We are a friendly, warm and nurturing school and we are committed to doing the very best for our pupils, setting them high expectations in a supportive environment while fostering independent learning and practical skills. You will become a central part of our diverse, enthusiastic and energetic family. The strength of community at Royal Russell is paramount to the success of every individual and we strongly believe that we learn and achieve together.
