Teacher of Drama

Island School is a highly successful IB school located in the heart of Hong Kong. 1200 students aged 11 to 18 study our innovative and exciting curriculum combining our own self designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, IB Diploma and BTEC programs. Currently based in temporary facilities in Sha Tin until September 2022 we will be returning to a brand new campus on Borrett Road designed to suit our curriculum. Here, facilities will include a world class sports centre, maker spaces, open classrooms and a black box theatre.

A full-time teacher of Drama is required to teach principally in the Drama department of the Creative Arts faculty. An ability to teach some lower school English would also be an advantage. The successful candidate may be expected to teach a range of courses including  MYP Drama, IGCSE Drama and upper school IBDP and BTEC Theatre subjects. The position will be a one-year full-time contract.

The Creative Arts faculty comprises the Drama, Music, Art and Film departments. The faculty enjoys a positive and collaborative working environment with excellent examination results and a number of combined wholeschool performances organised by the faculty. Recent performances have included Ill-Met By Moonlight (a promenade Shakespearean experience), His Dark Materials, Shockheaded Peter, and more.

The philosophy of the faculty centres around creative and collaborative working practices, and a commitment to continual professional development. We pride ourselves on our ability to achieve fantastic exam results whilst also promoting skill and character development. 

We operate a 1 to 1 laptop program throughout the school and all teachers should be committed to making the most of these resources in the teaching of their subjects. Online learning, blended learning, and flipped learning styles are also promoted throughout the school and teachers are expected to promote these practices.

The successful candidate should have:

• A relevant degree and postgraduate teaching qualification
• At least two years experience in teaching Drama and/or English
• A familiarity with IB MYP curriculum design processes and teaching methodologies
• The desire to embrace faculty-wide professional development models
• The ability to realise the potential of students of all learning needs
• A proven ability to integrate flipped, blended and other pedagogies into teaching & learning
• A commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school
• A commitment to pastoral care within the school
