Job overview

About the role: Stationers' Crown Woods Academy are looking to appoint an engaging, enthusiastic and dedicated classroom practitioner as Teacher of Drama (with some English), joining us for Easter 2022 on a 1 year fixed maternity contract.

Our pedagogical approach is based on the latest evidence and research and ensures that teaching is efficient and effective whilst prioritising staff wellbeing. We ask our teachers to plan for a rigorous learning experience in which knowledge is broken down into manageable chunks so as to prevent cognitive overload and allow our students to remain focused on what is important. We believe that knowledge should and needs to be taught explicitly from the front by the subject expert in the room. Working in this way allows our students to focus on the recall and activation of that knowledge and bring it to bear on conceptually focused questions. Through direct instruction, retrieval practice, low stakes testing and question level analysis in all year groups, we believe that subject gaps will be tackled as they occur and that proactively working in this manner will eliminate the need for reactive intervention in exam year groups.

Drama at Stationers' Crown Woods Academy: From Greek Theatre to Macbeth, Stanislavski and Naturalism to Devising and Physical Theatre, from Commedia Dell'Arte to Brecht and Epic Theatre, our students are promised an enriching curriculum that will develop their confidence in performing, understanding stage theatre, scripts and dialogue and handing them the tools to develop skills in improvisation and physicality. Join our vibrant department and help to shape the creative lives of our students.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of teaching GCSE and KS5 Drama
  • Dedication to Drama enrichment and co-curricular activities
  • Experience teaching English would be ideal

This role would be suitable for ECTs or more experienced teachers, offering MPS/UPS + Inner London

Note that whilst the position is offered on a maternity cover basis initially of up to one year, every effort will be made to offer a substantive position thereafter, either at Stationers' Crown Woods Academy or within the wider family of academies across Leigh Academies Trust. The central Recruitment Team will keep in touch with you throughout your contract to discuss options available to you.
