Job overview
Gad’s Hill School, a co-educational independent day school for pupils aged 3 – 16 set in 12 acres of the former home of Charles Dickens, is looking to appoint a Teacher of Drama for the duration of a maternity cover.
This is an opportunity to deliver the Drama curriculum to small Key Stage 3 and 4 classes of polite and enthusiastic pupils, as well as an exciting annual programme of productions, performances and LAMDA qualifications.
Gad’s Hill School requires a talented and passionate teacher to deliver the Drama curriculum to pupils in our Upper School. Employment will be for the duration of a maternity cover and will ideally commence from Monday, 2 June 2025. However, we would consider a later start for the right candidate.
Drama is compulsory up to the end of Lower Fourth (Year 8), and from Upper Fourth (Year 9) upwards is taught as an option subject to small GCSE groups, where the school uses the Pearson/Edexcel exam board. There are two teachers of Drama in the School, with the second currently responsible for delivering lessons to Lower School pupils and leading the Lower School production.
The Drama department also has an outstanding record of achievement in LAMDA awards for solo, duo and group performances. Experience of delivering these qualifications would be desirable. The department has a LAMDA coach who helps deliver some of the training for these awards.
There are annual productions in both the Upper and Lower School and other smaller performances, such as our house plays and LAMDA and GCSE showcases.
Experience of teaching examination classes in GCSE as well as delivering successful theatrical productions will be essential.
