Birkdale High School is a popular and successful all-boys 11-16 comprehensive Academy with an excellent reputation, outstanding pastoral care and consistently above national average academic results.

The school has seen its numbers rise over the last few years and was officially oversubscribed last year.

At Birkdale we aim to be leaders in the education of boys and this starts with a clear focus on developing effective teaching pedagogy and not engaging in educational fads or gimmicks. Our development of teaching is driven by a focus on cognitive science and educational research and our quality assurance of teaching is developmental rather than judgemental. Our teachers are given the space and support to make positive changes to their teaching in a risk-free environment; we watch each other teach, share best practice and are eager to accept our professional obligation to improve methods of embedding the knowledge our boys need.

The Creative Department at Birkdale High School are a committed, collaborative and hard working team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic department who have worked hard to develop a knowledge rich, carefully sequenced and challenging curriculum. With a purpose built building and continuing investment in specific resources and facilities relevant to the curriculum, we are resolute in our pursuit of increasing participation in drama and the performing arts. Ultimately, our aim is to ensure that our boys are provided with exciting opportunities to pursue the development of their creative talents and to allow them to flourish. The potential of the performing arts to drive and support the wider curriculum is also something that we are eager to develop. Driven by the principles of cognitive science coupled with high expectations, we are proud to consistently achieve excellent results in Drama and we are looking for an outstanding, passionate teacher to continue to contribute to further improvements in this successful department.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher of Drama/Performing Arts with outstanding potential to join a successful department with committed teachers working as a close team.  The successful candidate will be able to teach Drama to GCSE level and is required to join the team from 1 September 2021.

Ofsted report

“Most recent academy progress data indicate that there will be further significant improvement at GCSE five A* to C including English and mathematics this year. Boys are making at least good progress and this was confirmed during the inspection through the observations of lessons and scrutiny of current work. Some boys, particularly the more able, are making outstanding progress.”
