Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented individual to join us as a drama teacher (with English).

Caldicot School is an 11-18 co-educational comprehensive serving the local and wider community. The school has over 1300 students and is situated between Chepstow and Newport, with easy access via the M4 corridor and on the northern side of the Severn Estuary.

The school is at an exciting stage in its history. In September 2017, the school moved to a new £36m purpose-built site and now boasts some of the finest facilities in the country. Over the last two and a half years, there has been a significant number of changes at the school which has supported rapid improvements in provision and outcomes. This includes a new staffing structure, with clear career progression routes for staff, as well as a refined curriculum, designed to strengthen knowledge, understanding and skills. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking school. Our students take part in a broad range of activities that help them become "well-rounded" and the school's commitment to a values-driven education helps shape students to become positive role models in our society.

About the role

Drama is a popular and successful department within the school. The subject is taught throughout the school and student numbers at both GCSE and A level are historically strong, with a range of traditional and vocational qualifications. Extra-curricular opportunities are broad, and our musical productions and plays are of a very high standard. In recent years, Grease: The Musical and Lord of The Flies were of a particularly high standard.

All new members of staff receive a very strong programme of induction, which includes an allocated member of staff to support with the operational elements of joining a new school, as well as a tailored support package to meet individual needs. All teaching staff are also issued with a school laptop. The role would suit a newly qualified teacher searching for their first position or an experienced teacher looking for a fresh challenge in a different context. The school operates a 60 period timetable cycle (over two-weeks). The role is primarily drama (circa 30 periods), with the remaining periods designed to support English, whether this be literacy interventions and/or curriculum delivery (circa 22 periods – or 18, in the case of an NQT).

Closing date for applications: 3rd February 2022 at 12 noon.

Caldicot is an 11-18 co-education school with over 1300 students in Monmouthshire. We are located between Chepstow and Newport and the school is easily accessible via the M4 corridor and on the northern side of the Severn Estuary.

Founded in the late 1950s, Caldicot School has provided an education to families from within the town and surrounding areas for more than sixty years. In 2017, the school relocated to a brand new site and now boast some of the finest educational facilities in the country.

Our vision, ethos and core purpose clearly shapes our behaviours and actions in supporting each member of our community as summarised below

Caldicot School is committed to achievement for all students through the promotion of excellence. We respect the rights of all individuals and aim to ensure all our students acquire the skills in readiness for adulthood.

We seek to ensure all our students are happy and safe; achieve their full potential; develop the skills, knowledge and understanding to take their place as responsible citizens in society. Our vision is to inspire students to value education as a life-long experience which will continue into the world of work and leisure.

At Caldicot, we promote the core values of honesty; tolerance; respect; and responsibility. This seeks to encourage students and staff to respect others within the school, our local community and wider society.

In June 2019, Caldioct entered a unique formal partnership with The Bishop of Llandaff, in Cardiff. An Executive Headteacher oversees progress, provision and leadership across both schools, while a Head of School is responsible for the day-to-day management of each institution. As a partnership of two schools, staff have access to the highest quality training and development to support student achievement and progress.
