Job overview

An Exciting Opportunity to join Nova Hreod Academy - the most improved school in Swindon, bordering on the beautiful Cotswolds and within commuting distance of Bristol, Bath, Reading and Oxford.

We are looking for a Teacher of DT/Engineering to work within our dynamic Art and Design team as we continue our journey to becoming an outstanding school. You will benefit from support and wider opportunities from our United learning Cluster and partnership with Swindon Academy. As well as welcoming applications from experienced teachers and those relocating to the area, the school can offer an excellent support network and induction programme for Newly Qualified Teachers who are committed to helping young people realise their potential.

Nova Hreod Academy, which joined United Learning in 2014 is focused on raising standards for children and young people to ensure that the school is the best it possibly can be for our community. We moved into spectacular new accommodation in 2007.

The Academy has over 795 students on roll. Nova Hreod works in collaboration with Swindon Academy, which is 0.7miles away and has a Sixth Form for 240 students.

The school was inspected by Ofsted in January 2017 and judged to be a ‘good’ school. Inspectors noted that, “The principal insists on high standards of behaviour and discipline across the school. This allows teachers to focus on their teaching without the distraction of poor behaviour.”

We are looking for a DT/Engineering Teacher who:

  • Is a well-qualified, excellent teacher.
  • Is a dynamic teacher with high expectations and a commitment to improvement.
  • can demonstrate excellent organisational and inter-personal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Has clear vision, energy and commitment to all aspects of school life.
  • Has a desire and passion to make a real difference to the lives and life-chances of our students.

Nova Hreod can offer you:

  • Enthusiastic, friendly and well-behaved students who deserve the very best teachers.
  • A superb building with state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Hardworking, dedicated and enthusiastic staff.
  • A rigorous whole-school discipline policy effectively supported by the senior leadership team.
  • A growing team of Art and DT teachers, who have been working together to develop their Mastery Curriculum.
  • Supportive leadership and a committed Governing Body.
  • A guaranteed CPD offer with real opportunities to develop as a teacher.

United Learning:

Nova Hreod Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits and ultimately the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning) and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

At Nova, we want all our students to flourish academically and personally in an aspirational and supportive environment. Our school ethos is deeply rooted in our ‘DISC’ principles of Drive, Integrity, Scholarship and Contribution. As our students develop these values during their time with us, they move towards adulthood, better prepared to take on the challenges they will face.

Rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted in November 2022, inspectors described Nova as a "friendly and welcoming school." They praised our calm and purposeful learning environment, SuperNova enrichment programme and the fact that "children are able to enjoy a rich and ambitious curriculum."

Ofsted highlighted our “well structured” curriculum and that “pupils in all year groups make good progress across all subjects.” They also recognised the improvements in the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, adding that there is “a culture where staff reflect and improve on their practice.”
