About RDFZ King’s College School Hangzhou

RDFZ King’s College School Hangzhou is one of two new school development projects in China initiated through a partnership between the prestigious King’s College School, Wimbledon and the highly successful Chinese education management group, Dipont Education. A third partner for the Hangzhou project is The High School Affiliated to Renmin University (RDFZ), one of China’s leading schools.

RDFZ King’s College School Hangzhou represents a new standard of bilingual education in China. It provides for both local and international students via an innovative model that combines the rigorous Chinese educational tradition with the emphasis on extracurricular and character development that has made British-style public school education the most sought-after option for a new generation of Chinese parents.

The school opened in September 2018 with 714 pupils enrolled, a remarkable starting number that is testimony to the quality of the project, its exciting vision and the support of parents in the region and beyond. At capacity, the whole school will serve over 3,000 students from 3 to 18 years of age.

The school consists of:

  • A pre-school for pupils aged 3 to 6 years catering for Chinese and expatriate children offering a bilingual, play-based programme
  • A Chinese elementary and junior high school for Chinese students in Grades 1 to 9 who study the mandatory Chinese curriculum delivered with a modern pedagogical approach and additional English language instruction.
  • An international section for expatriate students from Grade 1, offering a British-style curriculum leading to IGCSEs with additional Chinese language instruction.
  • An international college for both Chinese and expatriate students, providing a wide range of A-level courses with the option of the IB Diploma Programme being implemented later.

The brand-new campus, which is located on an idyllic lakeside site in the Yuhang District of Hangzhou, provides first-class, modern school buildings and state-of-the-art facilities including a large multi-purpose sports hall, a 50 metre indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, playing fields, 400m running track, performing arts auditorium with a capacity for 800 people and boarding facilities.

Hangzhou, with a population of over 9 million people, is the capital of Zhejiang Province and an important city in China, recognised for its history, prosperity and beautiful natural scenery. It recently hosted the G-20 summit and will stage the Asian Games in 2022. Shanghai can be accessed within one hour by high-speed train.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Kindergarten, the successful applicant will join the school in August 2019.

The Kindergarten caters for students aged 3 to 6 and operates a bilingual, play-based curriculum based on international best practice and pedagogy integrated with elements of the Chinese curriculum. There is a shared pedagogical approach throughout the campus, enabling Chinese and expatriate students to benefit enormously from the cross-cultural exposure.

The Kindergarten offers an open, fluid learning environment where lessons and activities are held both inside and outside of the classroom. Classes operate in pairs for each age group and are staffed by one Chinese teacher and one expatriate teacher with additional assistant support. This allows teachers to support each other in planning, delivery of the curricula and the development of each child’s English and Chinese language skills.

This exciting and challenging role commands a highly competitive salary and benefits package, including high-quality housing; flights for employee and dependents and medical insurance for employee and dependents. Full tuition support will be provided for any successful applicant with school-age children. The position will be offered on an initial three-year contract term with annual renewal thereafter.

Applications are invited from candidates with:

  • Experience in early years education and a passion for the opportunities a bilingual programme provides for children
  • The ability to work collaboratively and contribute to the development of an outstanding school
