Job overview

The British College of Andorra (britishcollegeandorra.com), the only British school in Andorra, opened its doors for the first time in September 2018 as a one-form entry school from Nursery to Year 7 (3-11 years). In September 2019, the Secondary School opened. This post is to teach Economics and Business Studies at KS4 (14-16 years, Year 10 initially in September 2021) and beyond as the school continues to grow. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach ICT at KS3 and KS4.

The school is seeking to appoint a highly qualified and experienced Economics and Business Studies teacher with experience teaching in the British system. Candidates from the UK seeking their first overseas position or international teachers with experience of a British curriculum are encouraged to apply. Candidates will be required to do the IBDP training at the appropriate time in the future as well as play a vital role in the planning and implementation of the Diploma Programme. The posts of IB Coordinator and CAS Coordinator are both likely to be available in the near future.

Flexibility and adaptability will be fundamental to success as will experience, drive and a sense of humour. You would join a very happy team of teachers who have all helped create our wonderful school and who remain fully committed to the school’s future success.

This is the second school to be opened by Education in Excellence; the two form entry British College of Gavà opened its doors in 2015 to the south of Barcelona and is now a fast growing institution with over 300 students. Whilst having very strong links which will benefit both staff and students, each school will develop in accordance with the needs of the communities they serve while providing common values driven curricula with an international outlook.

General responsibilities: To prepare, provide and review class or subject based activities that maximise opportunities for student learning. To plan lessons by agreed deadlines in agreed formats and to ensure that copies of planning are available to interested parties. To show good subject knowledge and to share this with other staff when appropriate. To provide a stimulating ordered classroom environment where time and resources are used well. To respond promptly and constructively to pupils’ work. To involve students in the target setting process. To set homework that consolidates and extends classroom learning and that is based on individual need. To ensure the good behaviour of students and to develop within them positive attitudes towards peers, adults, property and school work. To maintain effective records of pupil progress and to ensure the transfer of up to date records when pupils change classes or school. To develop and maintain a good home-school partnership; to consult with and inform parents of the progress, attainment and attitudes of their children. To contribute to a whole school team approach.

The posts offer a unique opportunity to live in the spectacular natural environment of the Pyrenees with outdoor pursuits such as skiing, cycling, climbing and mountain walking on your doorstep with low tax advantages. The school is situated just outside Andorra la Vella in a stunning mountainside location. In the future, the school will expand each year group in the Secondary School year on year until we reach Year 13, accompanied by a building programme to further expand the site.

The cost of living in Andorra is more favourable than most major European cities and the monthly net salary after social security and low tax deductions is 2,300 euros a month.
