Job overview

We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic teacher to inspire pupils in this key sixth form subject. The successful candidate will primarily teach A level and IB Economics, and have high expectations, dynamism, and excellent communication skills. For a well-qualified candidate, there is also the opportunity to take on the Head of Department role and there will be the need to teach some Business. We expect our teachers to be champions of their subject and to encourage intellectual curiosity.

The Economics department is lively, highly committed and flourishing in its pupil recruitment for the A Level and IB courses. A number of students also enter Economics-related EPQs and IB Extended Essays under the tutelage of the department, with many going on to make university applications for Economics and related disciplines.

Bryanston is a leading co-educational full-boarding school set in a beautiful 400-acre campus, surrounded by Dorset countryside, and provides an outstanding education for 780 pupils aged 3-18. We pride ourselves on being a happy, creative, and forward-thinking place to learn with the freedom to explore.

We welcome applications from ECTs and experienced teachers from both the independent and state sectors. The person appointed will also have the opportunity to contribute to the pastoral, boarding and co-curricular life of the School.

Bryanston School offers an exceptional working environment, which includes a competitive salary, state-of-the-art facilities and wide-ranging prospects for development.

Bryanston is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

About Bryanston School

Bryanston is an independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, set in a beautiful 400-acre site near Blandford Forum in Dorset. It includes Bryanston Prep School, a co-educational day and boarding prep school in the neighbouring village of Durweston.

Founded in 1928, the school aims above all to develop the all-round talents of individual pupils. A broad, flexible academic and extra-curricular programme is offered and each pupil benefits from considerable one-to-one help and guidance from a personal tutor, subject teachers and housemaster/housemistress. Bryanston aims to combine the best of the new and the old, as befits the school motto et nova et vetera.
