Job overview

We are looking for a well-qualified and highly motivated teacher of Economics to teach at Harington School, who has a love for their subject. This post has become available due to the continuous rise in popularity of the subject.

We welcome applications either from NQTs, who will be well supported by experienced mentors and through our teaching school alliance; or from more experienced candidates where there are exceptional opportunities for further professional development and promotion.

Harington School is an Outstanding (Ofsted, January 2017) provider of Post 16 education where students enjoy an academic curriculum housed within purpose built accommodation. Class sizes are modest and the attitude of learners first class. The majority of students aspire to follow a university route, with many applying to Russell Group universities. The School has a commitment to enrichment outside of the curriculum and there is a healthy sporting, musical and leadership programme.

For successful candidates there are opportunities for further professional development and promotion across the Federation. This provides wider opportunities for staff, giving them broader experience across different organisations, including the opportunity to teach younger students at Catmose College should their skills and experience be appropriate.  The successful candidate will be joining a strong and supportive team of specialist teachers who take pride in achieving the best outcomes for all students.

Teachers are able to enjoy many additional benefits that come as part of working within the Federation. These include, amongst others:

  • Teachers at top of scale may receive up to a 2% pay award annually for good performance, in addition to any incremental pay progression.
  • Relocation support for hard-to-recruit subjects.
  • Vast range of staff training including a funded Masters scheme.
  • Staff laptops.
  • Priority admission for children of staff to the College and Primary.
  • Flexible working; part-time and job share considered and variable hours considered.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and welcome applications from candidates looking for a variety of flexible working arrangements including, but not limited to; part time working and a job share.

The Federation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students in our care and expects all staff to share this commitment.  All staff are responsible for ensuring safeguarding, health and safety policies are implemented in line with Federation policy and current legislation. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. We are an equal opportunities employer.

Harington School is a free sixth form school that opened its doors on the Catmose campus in Oakham in September 2015, providing an A level academic education focusing on the core subjects. The School offers a curriculum designed to develop individual and academic potential, leading the way to the most prestigious universities and providing high quality careers advice.

In its second year, Harington was judged Outstanding by Ofsted. Our committed, supportive and hard working students were praised during the inspection in January 2017, as was our strong team of dedicated and experienced teaching staff.

At Harington we expect a lot of our learners. We want students who are mature in their approach; who will support each other and take advantage of all that the School has to offer, guided by talented teachers. This all takes place within a brand new state of the art building, which we moved into in November 2016. Built over two floors, the Harington building comprises sixteen specialist classrooms, four specialist science labs, music and art facilities and a number of seminar rooms. At the heart of Harington School is a large open area that is used for weekly assemblies, as well as concerts, performances and presentations from a range of outside speakers.

Outstanding academic success is an important feature of Harington, but we know that on its own that is not enough. Students who come to the school benefit from access to a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities including an academic enrichment programme, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, musical scholarship awards, leadership opportunities, and a full sporting programme.
