Job overview

North London Collegiate School Jeju is an expanding, successful, cross phase school, currently in its sixth year of operation. Due to our next phase of expansion across a number of year-groups and following continued successes at IB Diploma, an exciting teaching opportunity is now available commencing August 2017.

We are looking for a well-qualified and inspirational English specialist to join our thriving English Department within the Senior School (Year 7-13).

North London Collegiate School Jeju is a large, thriving co-educational Day and Boarding school for students aged 4-18. Our curriculum and ambitious academic ethos, together with our extensive co-curricular programme, reflect our close links with NLCS in London and provides a high quality British Independent School education in an international setting.

Our 2016 graduating students achieved an average IBDP score of 38, which has consistently grown in the last three years from 36 points (in only its third year of operation), two of our students scored the maximum of 45 points last year, and 40% of our students scored more than 40 points. Our alumni are now attending some of the world’s leading universities, from Cambridge to Yale, from Stanford to LSE, from Oxford to Imperial, and beyond.

We believe that NLCS Jeju is a unique option for teachers. We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package, including accommodation, flights, health insurance, tax subsidies and free places at the school for teachers’ children. Jeju Island represents one of Asia’s most beautiful and spectacular locations.

You can find additional information, job description and details of this post on our website at www.nlcsjeju.kr/employment .

Applications should be submitted via the application form on the employment pages of our school website, which will also require you to upload a covering letter of application and an up to date CV.

The deadline for applications is Monday 7th November 2016 at 12pm (mid-day) GMT. After an initial long-list interview process, shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview at some stage between the 28th and 30th of November 2016.

NLCS Jeju is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

NLCS Jeju was the first NLCS International School to open its doors in 2011. It is located on the island of Jeju, in South Korea, but its proud heritage is from the United Kingdom, where in 1850 education pioneer Frances Mary Buss established the North London Collegiate School.

In just a few years NLCS Jeju has earned a reputation as one of the most prestigious and successful schools in East Asia. IB Diploma results are outstanding and the school’s graduates are attending some of the world’s leading universities, including Oxbridge and Ivy League colleges.

In keeping with the NLCS philosophy, the curriculum is aspirational and provides significant academic challenge for students. Students sit iGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 and follow the IB Diploma Programme through Years 12 and 13.

NLCS Jeju offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package including accommodation, flights, health insurance and free places at the school for teachers’ children.

Location

The school is located on the picturesque island of Jeju, in South Korea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is also the first international school to be opened as part of the Global Education City on Jeju Island, which is becoming the centre of English education in Korea and the pre-eminent educational hub of Asia.

Jeju Island, 130km off the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, is often described as one of Asia’s best-kept secrets. Jeju’s temperate climate, natural scenery and beaches make it a popular tourist destination for South Koreans as well as visitors from other parts of East Asia.
