Job overview

Accrington Academy is a good school that is well on its way to ‘Outstanding’. We are in the fortunate position to be able to appoint an additional member of staff for our successful English Department in order to continue our journey towards becoming an ‘Outstanding’ school.

We are therefore seeking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and influential Teacher of English to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Additional responsibility may be available for the suitable candidate.

Accrington Academy offers a stimulating, diverse and creative English curriculum and is committed to ensuring that the needs of all our students are met. Alongside students developing skills in the basics of functional English, students also have the opportunity to combine academic rigour with their love and enjoyment of the subject.

We are looking for a colleague who has the drive and desire to be consistently outstanding within a short time frame. You will be someone who shares our moral purpose of ensuring that all of our young people receive the best education possible in a supportive environment from people who care about them. You will be passionate about English and will inspire our students to be so as well.

As a colleague at Accrington Academy you will benefit from:

  • A popular and oversubscribed school;
  • Outstanding learning environments including modern well resourced and ICT rich learning environments;
  • A school with National School of Creativity status;
  • Outstanding career development pathways within the Academy and as part of United Learning.

With Accrington Academy being part of one of the leading school groups in the country, we offer unrivalled career development opportunities and support to ensure you achieve your ambitions.  If you’d prefer flexible working, we’ll try to accommodate it; if you need to relocate for this role, we can provide financial assistance; and if you’re currently based overseas, we’ll help with your transition back to the UK.  Furthermore, you could be eligible for health care cover and full or part funded CPD during your first year.

We are a popular, vibrant and successful 11-18, non-selective school. Our motto as part of the UL family of academies is “The Best in Everyone”.

In March 2015 OFSTED identified that we were a ‘good’ school. The cornerstone of our success is that students enjoy school.  “Students’ attitudes to learning are positive. Students want to do well at the academy”.  – OFSTED MARCH 2015

We have developed a culture of “hard work” and “dedication” from our students and staff alike, where high expectations and a desire for success are standard and everyone is proud to belong to Accrington Academy.

We believe that everyone at the academy can be outstanding and we seek to draw out the full potential in everyone. We do this by instilling the following values in all our students:

  • Ambition
  • Determination to succeed
  • Respect for others, ourselves and the environment we live and work in
  • Enthusiasm
  • Confidence
  • Creativity
