Job overview

We are seeking a highly capable, caring and dedicated teacher. The successful candidate will show excellent pastoral care and will be fully committed to sharing The Manor School ethos.

The role will predominantly teach Year 5 English and Year 1-6 Drama with the possibility of taking on additional roles such as Head of Drama. The Fixed Term Contract will end at the end of the academic year (2024) or return of the post holder.

TEACHING AND PASTORAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

●    To teach Drama across the school and English in Year 5 including all necessary planning, assessment and reporting, and in this to take account of the differing needs of all kinds of learners.

●    To inform and support the Head of Subject on every aspect and issue of the curriculum and pupils’ progress and welfare.

●    To attend Parents’ Evenings and to write reports in accordance with the Reporting Schedule.

●    To ensure the health, safety and general welfare of pupils and report concerns regarding teaching or welfare of individual pupils to the Head of Section.

●    To carry out breaktime and other duties as allocated.

●    Take occasional assemblies.

SUBJECT TEACHER

●       To create an environment conducive to the learning of their subject.

●       To develop curricula to meet the learning needs of specific groups.

●       To apply educational technology to support class teaching and independent learning.

●       To use evaluation to support curriculum planning decisions.

●       To be responsible for own professional development within the context of primary education and to seek the advice of the Deputy Head Academic to achieve this.

●       To provide for the welfare, health and safety of pupils.

Teaching Commitments

●       To teach and to plan learning experiences for KS1 and KS2 taking into account access and progression.

●       To assess and record learning needs and progress.

●       To use suitable learning activities and teaching methods.

●       To select appropriate methods that would provide encouragement and motivation for learning by allowing for individual differences.

●       To evaluate the strong and weak points of the lessons and modify them if necessary.

●       To devise learning material both for class use and for independent learning.

●       To encourage the active involvement of pupils in their own learning.

●       To support and use evaluation to implement changes and curriculum planning decisions with the Head of Subject.

●       To use effective listening skills to identify problems, issues and concerns and to provide support and appropriate referral.

●       To maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

●       To identify aspects likely to affect the health and safety of teachers, pupils and the institution and to identify steps needed to secure health and safety 

●       To take into account the formal and informal institutional requirements in organising learning.

●       To identify the institutional support available to further individual Continuous Professional Development goals and to relate my personal goals to institutional priorities.

●       To attend Departmental and Section meetings wherever possible

●       To take responsibility for classroom and corridor displays.

●       To undertake staff duties whenever required to do so.

General Teaching Duties

(Applicable to all Teachers, and to Teaching Assistants where appropriate)

Assessments and Reports

●    Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils

Appraisal

●    Participating in arrangements for the teacher’s further training and professional development as a teacher

Review: Further Training and Development

●    Reviewing from time to time the teacher’s methods of teaching programmes of work.

●    Participating in arrangements for the teacher’s further training and professional development as a teacher; the two or three days before the start of each term – i.e. when the pupils return – are for all staff for training and preparation; there may be other days in the school year when staff are required for training with reasonable notice

Educational Methods

●    Advising and co-operating with the Head and other teachers (or any one or more of them) on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements

Extra-Curricular

●    Take part in the School’s programme of clubs by running a club, from 4:30pm - 5:30pm, on a weekly basis

Discipline, Health and Safety

●    Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the School premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities elsewhere; following all aspects of the School’s Safeguarding Children policies, including informing the Head, DSL or DDSLs of any concerns

●    To behave professionally at all times and maintain confidentiality of information

Staff Meetings

●    Participating in meetings at the School which relate to the curriculum for the School or the administration or organisation of the School, including pastoral arrangements. These take place during the week within contracted hours and each Thursday evenings from 4:15pm - 5:30pm
