Job overview

The Governors of Lindsworth School are looking to appoint a Teacher of English and Geography in order to help drive the school forward and enable the pupils to gain excellent educational experiences and outcomes.

You will be enthusiastic and innovative, able to engage and inspire students to achieve their full potential academically and socially. You will teach Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 for both subjects and be part of an established, supportive and successful department. We are firmly committed to developing the talents and potential of all our staff and place great emphasis on their wellbeing.

Lindsworth School is a special school for secondary aged pupils (11-16) which incorporates a small residential provision. The school caters for young people in Birmingham, all of whom have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMH) as well as a range of other complex needs including ADHD, ASC, and related conditions. The majority of pupils are also known to one or more support agencies such as Social Services, CAMHS, the Police or Youth Offending Service.

Some pupils arrive having spent long periods out of the educational system due to exclusion, or having received limited hours of schooling elsewhere. They arrive throughout the year into each year-group and currently there are 79 on roll although this could increase to 120 which is our Pupil Admission Number.

The school was put into special measures by OFSTED in March 2014. Since that time there has been significant reorganisation of structures and systems, in order to better meet the needs of our pupils and deliver improved social and academic outcomes. As a result of the hard work and dedication of the whole school team, OFSTED judged us as a “Good” school in February 2016.

We are now focused on, and committed to, making rapid progress towards delivering an outstanding provision in the near future and are looking to appoint staff who have high expectations of themselves and pupils. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward thinking pro-active team committed to further improving outcomes for very vulnerable young people.

Candidates are expected to make an informal visit prior to submitting an application. Please contact Vanessa Wilson, H.R. Manager on 0121 693 5371 to make an appointment.

Closing Date: 12.30pm, Wednesday 12 October 2016

Further details and application forms are available online at www.lindsworth.co.uk.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks, including: an enhanced DBS; Prohibition check; Childcare Disqualification (where applicable); qualifications (where applicable); medical fitness; identity and right to work. All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references.
