Job overview

Harrow Shanghai is looking to appoint a dynamic, highly-skilled and inspiring Teacher of English and Humanities to work within its high-achieving Prep School.

Harrow's Prep School covers Years 5 to 8 and is housed within the same campus as the Early Years Centre, Pre-Prep and Senior Schools.  The possibility of teaching English within the Senior School to Shell (Year 9) and at IGCSE can be made available for the successful candidate if he/she has the credentials and appetite for such an extension.

Harrow Shanghai is a high-performing and market-leading international British curriculum school located in one of the most dynamic and exciting 21st century cities in the world.  The fourth school in the prestigious Harrow family of highly renowned schools in the Asia region, Harrow Shanghai provides an independent education from Early Years (18 month entry) to Upper Sixth within a high specification, modern and purpose-built campus just 35 minutes from the epicenter of the fast-paced, historically-rich and cosmopolitan metropolis of Shanghai.

The School combines the enduring core elements of the educational philosophy, practice and traditions of Harrow School in London, alongside the very modern international mindedness of a diverse and ambitious pupil body.

Officially opened by HRH Prince Edward, the School was launched in September 2016 and its roll is growing annually throughout all phases. The pupils, who are simply a delight to teach, follow the English National Curriculum and go on to study IGCSEs and A Levels.

Working at Harrow is a delight.  The pupils are engaged, aspirational and hard working, their parents are highly supportive and the staff are committed and close-knit.  The community is strong.  Pupils achieve highly both within and outside of the classroom and go on to enter many of the world's most competitive universities, including Oxbridge.  This summer, our Upper Sixth leavers achieved 57% A* grades and 90% A*/A grades across all A Levels taken.  IGCSE results are no less impressive.

Harrow is, however, about much more than simply outstanding academic results and our pupils excel in a multitude of fields including music, drama, sport and the arts, as well as involving themselves in service to the local community.  The post-holder will enjoy the opportunity to be fully involved in the Prep School's Games programme, as well as its innovative Leadership and Service programme.

The successful candidate can expect a generous salary, a performance-related bonus, accommodation, medical and flight benefits and an unusual 100% tuition fees remission for up to two dependents (50% for any further children thereafter).

Working within the highly prestigious Harrow Group of schools, which is closely aligned with Harrow London, will provide an ideal opportunity for career development and promotion.

Candidates should note that in terms of the ongoing global pandemic, Shanghai is presently one of the safest cities on the planet .  Thankfully, Shanghai daily life, in the very widest sense, remains untroubled with no social restrictions in place and the Harrow Shanghai staff are enjoying the many freedoms this affords.
