Job overview

Bromsgrove International School, Thailand, is a well-established co-educational boarding and day school for over 510 students from ages 2 to 18. The school follows the English National Curriculum, adapted for our international context, from EYFS through to IGCSE, A-Levels and BTEC. We are affiliated to Bromsgrove School, one of the UK’s most prestigious independent boarding and day schools, steeped in over 450 years of history. We aim to utilise the very best aspects of that educational heritage whilst also fostering in our students a love of independent learning and shaping them to become truly global citizens. The school is a fully accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is also a full member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA). The school is spread across two campuses: the Early Years Campus (Pre-Nursery to Year 1) and Windsor Park Campus (Year 2 to Year 13). The main Windsor Park campus is located on the idyllic Windsor Park Golf Course on the outskirts of Bangkok, within easy reach of Suvarnabhumi International Airport and is approximately 50 minutes away from the Sukhumvit downtown Bangkok.

Over the past three years the school has grown markedly, in both our student numbers and our reputation for academic excellence and is now the international school of choice in the Eastern Bangkok area. Due to our continued growth in student numbers we now seek for August 2019 an additional Teacher of English as an Additional Language (EAL) who wishes to be part of a professionally dynamic, supportive and forward thinking learning community, in a wonderful Southeast Asian setting.

Our EAL teachers work hard to ensure all our learners make rapid progress in their English language acquisition and are an integral part of the school. We provide both in-class and withdrawal support for our learners depending on their individual needs. Previous and/or current experience of teaching EAL across all phases of an international school would be a distinct advantage.

The successful candidate should:

  • Hold a BA/BSc. degree, as well as a post-graduate qualification in education (i.e. PGCE/GTP), or a BEd. degree.
  • Hold a CELTA/TEFL or similar EAL qualification
  • Have a minimum of two years teaching experience in the UK or overseas in a British curriculum school
  • Have a proven track record of excellent classroom and pedagogical practice
  • Have a thorough knowledge of both Primary and Secondary EAL schemes of learning and frameworks
  • Have an advanced ability to use ICT to support teaching and learning
  • Be able to engage, motivate and support children, staff and parents
  • Be a reflective practitioner with the ability to think creatively and innovate
  • Be a positive and enthusiastic member of the staff room
  • Be willing to be fully involved in the extra-curricular life of the Boarding School

The school offers a competitive international salary and benefits package, comparable to similar international schools in the region. For further details of the school and to get a flavour of who we are, please visit our website at www.bromsgrove.ac.th

To apply for this position please submit a full letter of application, curriculum vitae with a minimum of two referees (one of which must be your current Headteacher/Principal) and a recent passport photograph directly to Dr Dan Moore, Headmaster at recruitment@bromsgrove.ac.th

Bromsgrove International School Thailand is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, such as the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), if UK based, or the equivalent if overseas, as well as written/verbal reference checks from previous employers. Any offer of appointment will be subject to the above checks being successfully completed.

Closing date for all applications is 09:00 GMT, Sunday 24 March 2019

Interviews for short listed candidates will take place in both Bangkok and via Skype during March/April 2019 where applicable.

Introduction

Bromsgrove International School Thailand (BIST) is a privately owned independent institution which uses the name Bromsgrove under license from Bromsgrove School UK. Bromsgrove School in England was established in 1553 and is a top co-educational day and boarding school in the British Midlands. We are one of only two schools outside of England that carries the prestigious Bromsgrove name. A Bromsgrove School governor sits on the Board of Governors at BIST and both schools work very closely together and share the same ethos and educational philosophies.

We have a truly international student body made up of over 27 nationalities, including Thai, Korean, other ASEAN nationalities, European, North American and British. Class sizes are small, and adult:pupil ratios are among the best in the city.

Two purpose-built campuses

Bromsgrove is unique in its picturesque Thai setting, offering two specialist campuses on the outskirts of Bangkok, both in close proximity to Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Our Early Years campus is a safe haven, just moments from bustling Ramkhamhaeng road, whilst our Windsor Park Campus (Years 2-13), surrounded by rice fields and golf greens and in its own landscaped grounds, allows us to have large classrooms, big sports fields and lots of space to play, not to mention the lovely fresh air! We boast outstanding sporting facilities, cutting-edge learning and social spaces, Art Studio and a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre and 523 seat auditorium. We are also proud of our world-class boarding provision, which is amongst the very best in Asia.

Personalised Learning

We have the ambition and confidence of a larger school, whilst enjoying the intimacy and personalisation of a smaller institution, and we pride ourselves on the level of personalisation we provide for every student, regardless of their profile. Our students are predominantly very academic, and their quantitative, non-verbal and spatial scores place them regularly in the top stanine globally; however, we are also proud of our capacity within our specialist EAL teams to address low English levels when students initially join the school to ensure they make rapid progress as learners.

Curriculum and Accreditation

We offer a modified English National Curriculum from Pre-Nursery (aged 2) until Year 9 (aged 14). Thereafter, our students pursue first the international GCSE examinations at aged 16, and then A Level courses at 6th Form level, the gold standard pre-university qualification worldwide. In addition to A Levels, we also offer vocational Level 3 BTEC qualifications in a number of subjects. Our students regularly feature in the list of students whose results place them ‘Top in Thailand’ or ‘Top in the World’, and we are proud of the academic excellence of our students. We are a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), fully accredited by Education Development Trust (EDT) and a full member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA). In addition, we are members of the Boarding Schools Association (BSA), the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT) and the Thailand International Schools Activities Conference (TISAC). We are accredited by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), EdExcel and AQA examination boards. Lastly, we are proud to be able to offer both the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and the Bromsgrove Award which is an individualised student enrichment programme unique to BIST for our secondary students. Last year, we were shortlisted for the prestigious British International Schools Award for our forward-thinking ‘home learning’ initiative.

Teachers

Our teachers predominantly come from the United Kingdom and are fully qualified; we also invest in staff Continuous Professional Development, including funding for Masters studies, as we endeavour to professionally develop all staff to an optimum degree.

Remuneration Package

The remuneration and benefits package on offer is competitive for the region and includes start and end of contract flights (then annual flights for renewal contracts), relocation allowance, school lunch, housing allowance, private medical insurance and a re-signing bonus for subsequent contracts. The cost of living in Bangkok is very low, and enables teachers to save a good percentage of their salary each month (most teachers save over a 1/3 of their salary), travel extensively locally and regionally, and enjoy the vibrant lifestyle unique to Bangkok.
