This is primarily a classroom teaching post and your central responsibility will be approximately 18 hours of classroom teaching a week. For an appropriately qualified candidate, there could also be an opportunity to be a form tutor, with additional pastoral responsibilities.

In addition, you will be expected to play a full part in the life of The International Section, as outlined in the duties and responsibilities below.

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching, Pastoral and Extra-Curricular:

  • As an EAL teacher, as well as supporting international students with their language skills so that they can successfully access the full curriculum, you will be expected to prepare students for a range of English language exams offered by the school. These include IGCSE English Second Language, Trinity Integrated Skills and IELTS
  • Term-time weekly teaching for a full-time post will be an average of 18 hours per week.
  • As a member of the TIS teaching staff you will have a range of general duties which will include covering lessons for absent colleagues, accompanying students on day and residential trips, communicating directly with parents, agents and guardians to report on student progress and attending all necessary meetings.
  • You will be expected to be involved in the social/cultural activities programme for international students. You may, for example, be asked to support our students participating in a recital or sporting event. Your duties may include the delivery of evening weekday activities or occasional weekend activities from time to time through term.
  • You may be asked to observe the lessons of your colleagues and you should expect your lessons to be observed.

  • Assisting with preparing schemes of work for EAL classes at various levels across the school (predominantly Year 10i, Year 11i and 6th Form or students ranging from A2 – C1 on the CEFR).
  • Participating in EAL departmental meetings and assisting with work scrutiny and standardising of exam paper and course work marking, as necessary.
  • Assisting with the day-to-day implementation of departmental processes, including maintaining records of work, mark book records, collection of student work samples, development and sharing of teaching materials.
  • Assisting with administration of EAL exam entries under the oversight of the Head of EAL.
  • Participating in and contributing to regular departmental CPD
