Job overview

Harris Academy Beckenham opened in September 2011, joining the highly successful Federation of Harris Academies in London. Since converting, results have dramatically improved and we have secured a judgment of ‘good’ from Ofsted under the new framework (July 2013).

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an NQT or experienced English Teacher to join our Academy.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher of English. The successful applicant will be a creative and dynamic practitioner who will be able to contribute to the planning of our English curriculum at KS3-5.

The appointed candidate will be well supported by an excellent induction programme. For NQTs, we provide our highly successful Harris Federation NQT programme where you will train alongside other NQTs from across the Federation. This enables aspiring teachers to support and learn from each other, in the true collaborative spirit of Harris. There is a structure of support and challenge with customised professional learning, and every NQT has a professional mentor.

Why work at Harris Academy Beckenham?

The Academy works within the wider Harris Federation, a supportive and highly successful group of Academies.  Each Academy operates autonomously within the Federation but all Harris Academies collaborate closely in sharing school improvement strategies and in supporting one another.

About Harris Academy Beckenham

School summary

Since opening in 2011, Harris Academy Beckenham has gone from strength to strength. We have been oversubscribed for the last three years, rapidly becoming the school of choice in the local area. Our GCSE and A Level results have improved each year, with our English and Maths combined score in 2016 reaching an outstanding 80% A*-C. Our ambition and aspiration will ensure that we continue to focus on the success of all of our students, irrespective of background. Since converting, results have dramatically improved and we secured a judgment of ‘Outstanding’ from Ofsted in 2017.

We invest in training and resources for our staff to help them make lessons fun, interesting and engaging. Class sizes are kept as small as possible and we place a firm emphasis on good behaviour so that students can learn in a calm and orderly environment.

Whether a child is struggling, needs to be stretched or is somewhere in the middle, we always work to meet their needs. Students who need it are given extra tuition, either in small groups or on a one-to-one basis. Just as importantly, we provide challenging courses and master classes in a range of subjects, in particular the core subjects of English, mathematics and science, to ensure every child feels stretched to his or her full potential.
