Darwen Aldridge Community Academy is an original sponsored Academy which opened in September 2008. We are an 11-18 school specialising in Entrepreneurship and Sport, located in the town of Darwen, situated in Pennine Lancashire. Since the Academy opened exams results have significantly improved. In 2013 the Academy was recognised by the SSAT as the 7th most improved school in the country in terms of GCSE results, and OFSTED (new May 2017 framework) have again graded the Academy as a ‘Good’ school in every respect. During this time, English has become one of the most improved faculties whereby students have consistently achieved outcomes above national average levels.
This post is a result of the growth in the academy and the popularity of the faculty’s post-16 subjects, and our commitment to ensuring all our students have the highest standards of literacy. We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and passionate teacher of English to join us in our objective; to become Outstanding. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to offer teaching across the age, ability and subject range. Teaching is likely to include a focus on Key Stage 3 and GCSE, and post-16 may be available for a suitably qualified / experienced candidate. We are looking for a passionate, dedicated, team player who puts the interests of the students first. Applications are invited from both experienced and newly qualified teachers. Enthusiasm, potential and a desire to help young people achieve their goals are more important than experience. Informal visits to the Academy by prospective candidates are welcomed.
Our staff enjoy high levels of support, there is at least 20% PPA/non-contact time for all teachers, and rarely cover has meant never cover (for most staff since we opened). We run comprehensive induction programmes and there are thorough professional development opportunities for all. For further details and an application pack or to arrange an informal visit, please contact the Principal’s PA Sam Grimshaw, firstname.lastname@example.org, at the Academy. Closing date for applications is noon on Friday 20th October 2017 with interviews taking place the following week.
Darwen Aldridge Community Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. References will be taken up for all shortlisted applicants and successful candidates will be subject to satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
