Job overview
The English Department at Bishop Barrington Academy is a forward-thinking department, who are constantly striving for excellence. The department aims to provide students with opportunities to improve their cultural capital by exposing them to a wide range of literature, exploring a range of genres and writers.
Creative lessons within English ensure that students are constantly making progress through appropriate levels of challenge for all students, as well as creating a safe space where students feel like they can attempt something independently and take risks with their work.
The department is committed to providing students with an enriching curriculum, both inside and outside of the classroom. Students have the opportunity to attend enrichment sessions such as the book club, the school library and additional intervention sessions for key stage four students (just to name a few). This is complimented further through our enhanced curriculum through educational visits to local universities, with a focus on English, and library visits, to expose students to a range of experiences, while also focusing on raising aspirations.
It is a really exciting time to join our thriving English Department. You will be joining a supportive department who work well together and are committed to ensuring that the English curriculum is challenging, engaging and rigorous, while also providing each member of the team the opportunity to show autonomy and be creative.
