Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated applicant to join our successful school, as part of a friendly and very hard working department. We are looking to appoint a teacher of English who will be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and have the knowledge and experience to teach across a range of ages and abilities. Applications from both experienced and trainee teachers (i.e. September 2021 NQTs) are welcomed.

We seek inspirational teachers with the talent and drive to join our strong and successful team. We believe our success as a faculty is directly linked to the quality of our staff, and we offer excellent professional development. We would love to hear from you if you are a dynamic and creative individual who makes learning fun and challenging, and who is looking to join a supportive and enthusiastic team in beautiful rural surroundings.

At Helena Romanes we value the personal attributes of hard work, positivity and kindness, and we are looking for someone who can model these values. We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity, celebrating diversity, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Helena Romanes joined the highly successful Saffron Academy Trust in September 2020. Consequently, there are a wide range of opportunities in terms of CPD, school-to-school collaboration and career development for members of our team.

The school is a popular and successful 11-18 comprehensive, situated in the beautiful North Essex countryside. It has good communications to London and the South East, and it is approximately 7 miles from Stansted Airport.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.  This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

The school reserves the right to interview candidates before the published closing date.

Interview date: Week commencing Monday 14th December 2020

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

While academic achievement is of crucial importance, we also ensure that we focus effectively on developing our pupils’ personal, social and creative skills. Our aim is that pupils leave Helena Romanes as successful, confident and considerate young adults.

We are very proud of our pupils. They are superb ambassadors for our school when they represent us locally, nationally and internationally, participating in our many and varied extra-curricular activities.

At Helena Romanes, we have a large team of well-qualified, dedicated staff who focus on supporting pupils’ progress and well-being. We work closely with parents, carers and the wider community to ensure we provide a well-coordinated approach to our pupils’ learning and development.
