Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of English on a full-time permanent basis from September 2021 (April 2021 also possible). Both experienced and newly qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading independent schools for boys and girls aged 3 to 18. Set within a 75-acre site, in the heart of Brentwood town, and a direct train ride from London Stratford station, the campus provides a stimulating environment for innovative teaching and a first-class education.

The facilities at are of the highest quality across all areas - academic, arts and sport. The school has around 1800 students, making it larger than the average school of its type, and just over 1200 of these students are in the Senior School, which includes approximately 70 boarding pupils.

The school's history spans almost 500 years and its School motto, ‘Virtue, Learning and Manners’, is taken from the School statutes of 1622. The principles of academic achievement within a caring Christian ethos remain a cornerstone of the School’s philosophy today.

The school are seeking to recruit an outstanding, enthusiastic Teacher of English to join this high performing School. The successful candidate will be a qualified graduate able to teach English at KS3, GCSE, IGCSE, A Level. They will join a dynamic and thriving department staffed by fourteen full and part-time teachers.

The department is excellently resourced with books, teaching materials and ICT equipment. English is a very popular choice of subject in the Sixth-Form, where English is studied either as an A Level or within the IDBP programme. The School and the senior management team are strongly supportive of English and recognise the important role it plays in the intellectual life of the whole School community. A variety of reading groups, public-speaking, debating events, theatrical expeditions contribute to the life of the department within the School.

The role involves teaching English throughout the School, up to and including the Sixth Form. The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in the support offered to pupils outside the classroom. Furthermore, all teaching staff are expected to participate fully in the wider life of the School through co-curricular involvement.

The Successful Candidate:

  • Degree in  English or closely related discipline
  • Qualified teacher status (desired)
  • Commitment to the success of every pupil studying English in the school
  • A perceptive and reflective practitioner in the classroom
  • Dynamic communicator who has demonstrable enthusiasm for their subject
  • Flexible and enthusiastic
