As a result of Cornwallis Academy’s increasing popularity and excellent reputation in the local community, we are looking to appoint a highly driven and inspirational teacher of English to join the academy on a years fixed term contract, who would relish the opportunity to become part of our English Department. The candidate should show a real passion for the subject and will be able to inspire students of all backgrounds.  Our highly successful English Department consists of a team of skilled, outstanding and motivated teachers which makes it a desirable team to work with.  

You will be joining an incredibly well-resourced and highly successful department that has a relentless focus on raising attainment and fantastic numbers for post 16 courses. In 2019, the department has celebrated a hugely successful set of summer results, in which 82% of GCSE students achieved a grade 4 or above and 62% achieved grade 5 or above. A-Level also shared equal success with 100% of Literature students achieving A*-C grades and 68% of Language & Literature students achieving A*-C grades. Similar success was shared in summers 2020/21.

The post offers great opportunities for continuous personal and professional development for an innovative and ambitious teacher looking for career advancement. The post comes with the possibility of a TLR responsibility for the right candidate. You would be managed on a day to day basis by the Director of English and would be supported by three Key Stage Managers for English. We are very excited about the future of English in our School and we are ready to invest in the right people to ensure its success.

The successful candidate will be a creative and inspiring Teacher of English who will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • The ability to teach English across KS3 and KS4 confidently
  •  Experience of KS5 teaching is desirable
  • Possess recent and relevant teaching experience
  • Be an outstanding classroom practitioner who can inspire students
