Job Description
Can you make a difference to the future lives of Glasgow's children?  Hillhead High School seeks to appoint a highly motivated, experienced and dynamic individual with an excellent track record in Secondary teaching. We are looking for someone who can support the schools  community  develop learning and teaching and ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential. You must be committed, passionate and a well qualified staff member. We will support you to inspire the learning of our children and young people. In addition to the range of teaching and other duties outlined in the job specification we are looking for individuals who enjoy working collegiately with colleagues, and who have with a firm commitment to improving the outcomes for Glasgow's young people.


Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment along with GTCS Registration. Please note successful candidates  will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.

Hillhead High School is a non-denominational, mixed state school in Glasgow. This mainstream secondary school is located in the west end of Glasgow, adjacent to Glasgow University. At full capacity, the school can hold 1,090 pupils aged 11-18.  

In 1972, Hillhead High School was turned into a comprehensive school. The main building was designed by EG Wylie in 1921 and is now protected as Grade B listed. It has excellent facilities including two gymnasiums, 10 science labs, a drama studio and three art and design rooms. The school encourages participation in extracurricular activities and provides a system of minority time activities, which sets aside time every Friday afternoon for pupils to take part in sporting and cultural activities.

Hillhead High School aims to empower all children to not only apply themselves to their studies but to also take part in cultural, sporting, social, leisure and personal activities. The school aims to be inclusive of all cultures and nationalities. This is reflected in its diverse student population, with 30 different languages represented, and in the classes on offer, such as Urdu and Chinese. Teachers strive to develop and promote students’ personal and social development alongside academic achievements, to prepare them for later life.   

The school specialises in promoting equality and social justice, and its pupils have gained achievements in sports, music and enterprise citizenship. Hillhead High School also strives to partner with businesses that encourage pupils’ enterprise skills.

"The overall quality of teaching was good with some examples of very effective practice. Most teachers planned their lessons well and gave clear explanations and instructions. Some shared and reinforced learning outcomes and reviewed them with pupils at the end of the lesson … Teachers used praise appropriately to build the confidence of pupils."
