Job overview

Kelvinside Academy is a leading independent HMC co-educational day school, of over 600 pupils aged 3-18 in the West End of Glasgow.

We seek a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher of English to lead classes from S1 to Advanced Higher.

The role might well suit a Probationer, for whom thorough support would be provided towards GTCS full registration, or alternatively a more experienced teacher. The post, which is for one year in the first instance, may be either full or part-time depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate. An ability to teach Drama may be advantageous.

English operates within the Language Faculty which comprises English and Modern Languages (French and Spanish). The Faculty team of nine teachers is led by a Head of Faculty, and a Deputy Head with specific responsibility for delivery of the curriculum in Modern Languages.

The salary is based on the main national teachers’ scale and there is an additional KA allowance.

The school aims to bring out the best in every pupil, combining high standards of teaching and a superb extra-curricular programme within an inclusive and caring ethos. Sport, outdoor pursuits, music, drama and art flourish, together with a range of clubs and societies. A willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school is essential.

The post is tenable from August 2017. A completed application form and covering letter should be sent to the Rector, Mr I H Munro, as soon as possible.

The closing date is noon on Monday 31 July 2017.

Early applications are encouraged, and the School reserves the right to appoint before the closing date should a suitably qualified candidate present themselves.

Further information, including a job description and an application form can be found on the School’s website.

Applicants should be registered or eligible for registration with the GTCS; the successful candidate will undertake a PVG check through Disclosure Scotland.

About Kelvinside Academy

Kelvinside Academy is a leading independent school in the West of Scotland catering for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18.

The school comprises 3 stages: Nursery, Preparatory and the Senior School. All are located on the one site, and a key feature of the Kelvinside Academy experience is the seamless progression from stage to stage.

With a commitment to small classes, the school seeks to provide an environment in which the individual will flourish.

Although academically selective, the school still caters for a reasonably wide range of abilities, which enables a firm priority to be given to the admission of younger brothers and sisters.

Over 90% of leavers usually proceed to degree courses at university. The majority go to Scottish Universities, however there is always a number who go to university in the South, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Good manners and standards of behaviour are insisted upon in a friendly but disciplined atmosphere.

Pastoral care of the highest quality ensures that each boy and girl receives individual nurture and support.

Hard work, commitment and achievement are equally valued by the school. Indeed, we want to attract boys and girls with enthusiasm, an appetite for all that's on offer: they will emerge as well rounded, confident individuals - hallmarks of the Kelvinside Academical.
