Job overview

We require an enthusiastic Head of English to lead a strong and dynamic department that achieves outstanding outcomes for our students.  We are looking for an excellent practitioner with a record of high achievement in the classrom.  The successful applicant will be an inspirational teacher with the energy and drive to undertake this significant leadership role in our community.

Our school is situated in Wealdstone High Street in the London Borough of Harrow and has established a strong tradition of academic success with active learning at its core.  We are a highly successful, oversubscribed, comprehensive learning community of approximately 780 girls aged 11 - 16.

The school attracts a completely comprehensive intake of girls covering the full range of abilities, reflecting the diversity of North West London.

We are outward looking and committed to staff development.

In our last full OFSTED inpection (March 2014) the work of the school was judged to be outstanding across all areas.  A Diocesan inspection in November 2013 also judged the Catholic life of the school as outstanding.

We have high expectations and work hard to ensure that our students achieve the best possible academic outcomes.  In Summer 2017 our outcomes placed us in the top 3% of the country for Progress 8.

Values and vision

As a Catholic learning community, The Sacred Heart Language College is a Christian school bound together by love and respect for human dignity. The secondary school wants to enable everyone in its community to come to a deeper understanding of Christ. In particular, the school seeks to provide a high-quality education that will enable all girls to discover and use the gifts and talents given by God.

Sacred Heart promote excellence in modern languages across the whole ability range. The taught curriculum creates an educational culture that is international, technological and vocational. Through the introduction of an extended school day, pupils have the opportunity to study at least two languages. They are also given the chance to attend a study visit abroad.

Ofsted report

“The atmosphere in lessons is positive and extremely supportive. Students feel confident to admit their failings and readily seek help or offer assistance to each other. In this way, students learn from each other and develop a better understanding of the more difficult aspects of their work. Teachers have great knowledge of their students’ prior learning and use this well to plan appropriate activities.”
