Job overview

We encourage you to read our website very carefully and familiarise yourself with our 2014 Ofsted report, our prospectus, candidate information pack and application form for the post. What will be clear to you is that you are applying to an extremely successful school and one with a decidedly clear ethos of achievement. We moved, in November 2012, into a brand new £80 million school.

The school became an Academy in September 2013 and was recognised by the Department for Education as a Teaching School in 2015. The government’s analysis of examination results has placed the school’s performance in the top 5% of schools nationally over the last decade. The school is committed to developing its teachers and to fostering the development of outstanding teaching. It is a personalised community, committed to creating careers for people. We are experienced in supporting NQTs and indeed enjoy this aspect of staff development but we have had equal success in fostering the careers of colleagues who join having taught in other schools or who have had other careers. Teachers appointed on the mainscale receive, in addition to their salary, the Holland Park School Allowance.

Teachers provide outstanding English teaching, much is driven, accomplished and dynamic. There are generous resources and all teachers have their own classroom which benefits from a range of interactive technology and brand new teaching resources. English colleagues benefit from the participation in the Prince’s Teaching Institute and their professional development is supported by two of the school’s Deputy Heads, in addition to an entire leadership team who understand the centrality of literacy in the curriculum. As a result, English teachers have fewer teaching groups on their timetable than any other teacher, because the school invests significantly in English curriculum time. This assists English teachers in building close relationships with a reduced number of students and making sustained and rapid progress with near-daily contact with their students. English is popular with students and there are several A-level teaching groups.

An application form that should be completed electronically is available from the school’s website: http://www.hollandparkschool.co.uk/vacancies/train-and-teach-with-us. Early application is encouraged as we will seek to interview and appoint on receipt. The closing date for applications is Monday 4th November 2019.

Leaders and teachers at Holland Park believe in the value of detailed planning, of creative, exciting, distinctive lesson ideas that seek not merely to be functional journeys through subject matter, but transformative learning experiences. They know that successful learning is not possible without rigorous and thorough methods of assessment. Teachers recognise that behaviour management is rooted in quality relationships within the context of firm boundaries, students need to believe that teachers take warm and genuine interest in them. Emotional intelligence, warmth and sensitivity is central to this post. Our work in culturing a motivated and committed workforce has been recognised in the award of IIP platinum (2020).

Our employees are the most important resource in the school and we take our appointments very seriously indeed. At the same time, we also know that applicants are making a choice and that when leaders and teachers share the ethos of a school, learning is most powerfully and successfully supported.
