Job overview

Are you passionate about giving students the ability to read confidently, write effectively and speak articulately?  If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you to shape a fundamental area of the school curriculum.

The role

We are looking to appoint a Teacher of English to join our dynamic English department from September 2020.  The role will suit a English teacher who is ready for a new challenge to develop their practice in a forward thinking, creative and dedicated team, who are passionate about giving students the secure grounding in English to prepare them for adult life.

What KAA offers

Our English department is made up of talented staff who all have a true passion for the subject of English.  Because of this, there are regular opportunities to learn from, and train, other members of staff in areas of expertise which promotes the on-going professional development of our English teachers.

We have an impressive A Level  intake and there are often 4 full classes in Y12 and 2-3 classes  in Y13, giving our English teachers the exciting opportunity to teach the A Level curriculum.

There is an embedded system of whole class feedback across all key stages which helps with teacher marking workload.

At the heart of school is the KAA library which gives students access to an wide range of reading material and a quiet reflection space to enjoy the beauty of literature.  Every KAA teacher has a 'morning reading group' and reading is actively encouraged both within the English curriculum and throughout the wider school community.

Each year, our Annual Literary Festival is a hugely popular event with around 7-8 external writers visiting KAA to run workshops with students during the week and beyond.

We are an oversubscribed Outstanding school within a diverse community of London's Notting Hill.  Having opened in new buildings in 2014, we have established the school's motto of 'intrepidus' in all aspects of school life and pursue the very highest standards in education, both inside the classroom and beyond.

We have a committed focus to staff well-being and we offer a variety of staff benefits such as free, weekly well-being activities and an extended half term in October.

What you offer

With a diverse student base, we are looking for someone who has the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their best.

Be committed to enhancing the classroom experience of all students so that they develop a passion for English and a wider love of learning.

A English teacher who can provide effective and inspiring teaching to our students, of all abilities.

Closing date: 5pm on Monday 27th January 2020

Interview date: Interviews are likely to take place on either 30th/31st January or 3rd February (times to be agreed with shortlisted candidates)

About Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA)

KAA is an 11 – 18 academy situated in the heart of Notting Hill. We opened in brand new buildings in 2014 with just Year 7 and our facilities are second to none. We are now in our ninth year of operation and are a full school with 1,250 students in Years 7 to 13.

KAA has grown to become one of the top academies in the UK. Our Ofsted report grades us outstanding in all categories and describes standards as “exceptional”. In 2018 we were awarded TES Secondary School of the Year, and our 2022 Good Schools Guide review praises the “phenomenal” education students receive.

Why work for KAA?

Making a real difference

KAA pursues the very highest standards in education, both inside the classroom and beyond. We believe all children can achieve good results, irrespective of their prior attainment or experiences. 60% of our students qualify for the Pupil Premium, but with our help they can overcome the barriers that relative poverty can create. Our ethos, spirit and commitment to ever-extending student achievement make KAA an incredible place to work and learn.

Unrivalled professional development

KAA is a high-performing environment where staff at all levels feel challenged and supported to achieve their professional goals. As you will see in our Ofsted report, CPD in our school is of an “exceptional” standard and is an ongoing focus for all staff. There are few better places to develop your skills as a teacher than here with us in Kensington.

Being valued

We invest in our staff and offer unique benefits, including: 180 school days (as opposed to the 190 other schools have); 15 training days (as opposed to 5); free breakfast and lunch for all staff everyday; a two-week half term in October; free staff exercise and well-being sessions, and much more.
