Job overview

Does your passion for the English language burn bright enough to inspire young people? Would you like to work in a supportive faculty with like-minded colleagues? Bring us your passion and commitment, and we can offer you excellent professional development opportunities while you make a meaningful difference to the lives of our students.

We are an 11-18 school of approximately 900 students, which Ofsted described on their last visit as a school where there is a “sense of pride and a belief among students and staff that they are valued”. They also commented that we have “created a culture focused on maximizing the achievements of all students”, and we expect all our staff to subscribe to this ethos to give our students the best possible start.

We are looking for someone who will:

  • be able to deliver engaging and inspiring lessons across all age groups;
  • set high standards of professionalism and high standards of behaviour for the students in their care;
  • be prepared to go the extra mile to ensure the best outcomes for their classes;
  • share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people, and demonstrate this commitment in every aspect of their work.

English at Heysham High is taught in a self-contained area of the school with interactive whiteboards in every room. The Head of Faculty is an outstanding professional, so you can be assured of support to grow in your practice at subject level as well as having an excellent range of weekly CPD activities at your disposal.

Please have a look at our website for more information about the school and our ethos and curriculum, and we look forward to reading your application. If you need any clarification about the position or the application process, please feel free to contact school.

Required for September 2016, however a Summer start could be considered for the right candidate.

Applications must be made on the attached application form and should be emailed with the self-disclosure form to our Director of Personnel, Janice Coltman, at jcoltman@heyshamhigh.co.uk.

Closing date for applications is noon on Wednesday, 2nd March, with interviews being held during w/b Monday, 7th March.

Values and Vision

The school mission statement is to be an oversubscribed and outstanding educational establishment with great facilities and a vibrant sixth-form college, providing a strong curriculum that prepares its students for ongoing education and the outside world at the same time as meeting all their school needs. Students are taught that courage, determination, scholarship and compassion are essential ingredients for the successful learner. Heysham High is also always looking outwards and sees itself as a central part of its community, be that locally, nationally or internationally.

The school partners with other local schools – Carnforth High School, Central Lancaster High School and Our Lady’s Catholic College – to provide a broader range of options for the sixth-form. It is a sports school, so is well-equipped with facilities such as a floodlit 3G Astroturf pitch, sports hall and a fitness suite.

Ofsted

“The school takes care of its pupils, and systems for safeguarding are effective. Pupils report that they are well looked after and feel safe on site, and that they are taught how to keep themselves safe. The headteacher has the confidence of the staff. They are keen to develop their practice and are positive about the school.”
