Job overview

Stamford School is seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic English teacher to join our large, thriving department and inspire students throughout their educational journey. The successful candidate will teach English across the 11–18 age range. This post would suit either a recent graduate embarking on a teaching career or a more experienced teacher seeking to join a well-established department.

English at Stamford is taught by a team of experienced subject specialists. It is a happy, friendly and supportive department with a strong sense of camaraderie and an excellent track record of success in public examinations.

The majority of English teaching takes place in a dedicated block of eight spacious classrooms on the St Paul’s site, with two additional rooms at St Martin’s. The department benefits from a generous budget, and colleagues are encouraged to make full use of our extensive resources while continuing to develop our collection of texts and teaching materials.

All students are equipped with a tablet and keyboard device, as are teachers, and we encourage technology to be deployed usefully and effectively; the use of MS Teams and OneNote is routine throughout the school.

This position would suit a teacher at any stage in their career. Applications from Early Career Teachers are welcome. This is a full-time term-time teaching role. Stamford has its own salary scale and remuneration will depend on experience.

  • A good honours degree in a related subject and postgraduate certificate in education (QTS).
  • Experience of teaching or working with GCSE and Sixth Form aged students.
  • Willingness to engage with Continuing Professional Development.
  • Inspire respect and credibility through the discharge of their duties and use their expertise to influence others in relation to their subject.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of current issues relating to the personal development of young people.
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of how to promote equalities and ensure inclusive teaching and learning practices.
  • Ability to inspire, challenge, motivate and empower students as they prepare for life beyond school.
