Role Purpose

This is an additional post within the English Department at King's Lynn Academy to bolster the existing team due to increased student numbers and increased investment in the Academy.  This is an exciting opportunity to join us at an important time of our history; we are firmly on our way to achieving successful ratings from Ofsted with our sights set on becoming an Outstanding school.  Our success in improving standards of learning and behaviour are an integral part of this journey

Our students range from age 11 to 16 and have a range of backgrounds and abilities and are a true reflection of the local area.  Our existing staff, whether support or teaching, work well together as a team with the best interests of all of our students at heart.

There are many opportunities at Kings Lynn Academy to develop your own areas of interests, both within your specialty and on a wider basis; we actively encourage involvement in extra-curricular activities to support learning in the classroom.  We embrace innovative ways of engaging with our students with the aim of ensuring that each of our students achieves their full potential through access to high quality teaching and learning experiences across all subject areas.

At King’s Lynn Academy we offer an engaging and relevant curriculum and offer our students a range of future pathways and destinations.  Our skilled staff make lessons interactive, engaging and enjoyable whilst ensuring that our students reach their full potential.

There are three main strands to our work at King’s Lynn Academy which direct all that we do;

Knowledge - We want all of our students to develop a thirst for knowledge; to challenge their current understandings and to drive them to succeed.  This also applies to our staff who we encourage to develop additional interests and responsibilities further widening the scope of their role in a way that benefits both the Academy students and the teacher concerned.

Leadership - All of our staff have a sense of responsibility; teaching staff can develop their interests in management, secondary topics, and extra-curricular activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh award, after-school clubs and more.

Aspiration - We do not set limits on the aspirations of our staff and students.  We actively encourage and support staff with career progression opportunities.

The Eastern Multi-Academy Trust was originally established in 2010 as the CWA Academy Trust, due to continued growth and success with Academies at both Primary and Secondary level in King’s Lynn and the surrounding area we became independent in 2017.  Our family of Academies helps us to establish a vibrant education system that enthuses young people and supports economic development of the region.  As a successful educational provider we contribute to the primary and secondary phases of education, raising standards throughout and aiding transition to higher education.  Our academies promote individual learning through inspirational teaching and challenging lessons, driving up academic standards and achievement rates well above national levels.

Like all strong families, the Eastern Multi-Academy Trust academies seek to offer mutual support to one another.  Developing shared learning and understanding, collaborating to achieve better outcomes, whilst recognising unique qualities and differences.  We focus on the successes of individuals and develop a culture of healthy competition.

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in King’s Lynn Academy (KLA).

We are incredibly proud to have been recognised by Ofsted as a “Good” school in May 2022. This is an incredible achievement and we are very pleased to have the hard work and determination of the students, staff and KLA community, recognised.

At KLA we are lucky to have an energised, skilful and committed staff who work together to continue to make our school better.  Relationships between staff, pupils and families are very strong, and our phenomenally energetic pastoral team are proactive in their communication with families and dedication towards the pupils.

We believe that this is a great place to be and to learn. Our motto is ‘success in all we do’. We do not put any ceilings on how high our students can go and we have high ambitions for everyone here. We are committed to a simple but powerful message: ‘achieving our full potential together’.

Our commitment to inclusion is reflected in our innovative ‘Forward Step’ base, created in 2018.  The programme offers an outstanding educational provision, delivering support and a broad and balanced curriculum which meets the needs of each individual student, linking the academic and therapeutic through a wholly holistic approach. We are proud of its huge success, which has strongly contributed to our being able to reduce all forms of exclusion by over 95% in just two years.

Alongside curriculum and enrichment opportunities, KLA embraces community fund raising; together our students, parents and staff have raised more than £9000 for Macmillan and have welcomes more than 100 local elderly residents in for a celebratory Christmas lunch, cooked and provided by KLA staff and students.

The curriculum that we plan for our pupils is ambitious, with its aim being clear that all pupils, regardless of their circumstances or needs, are enabled to be as successful as possible both academically and socially.  There are many ways that we support each pupil individually to achieve their goals, including support for the development of their character, resilience, community-spirit and mental health.  Our innovative system of ‘Personal Development Plans’, including an entitlement to at least three developmental face to face meetings for every pupil every year, is designed to make sure every pupil gets the individual advice, guidance and support they need to be successful, and that parents are included at every step.

Everyone is constantly learning in our academy – including our staff. Regardless of how long you have been teaching, or where you are in your career, you are guaranteed first class professional development at KLA. We aim to support teachers in developing their subject knowledge as well as refining their teaching practice within their discipline. Alongside this we develop colleagues’ understanding of wider teaching theory more generally - their pedagogical content knowledge. Our aim is to put theory into practice, and our CPD programme looks to make tangible differences in the classroom.

About the Trust
