The British School of Oslo (BSO) is a new member of The Schools Trust, opening to students in August. The BSO will offer to international expatriate and Norwegian families a British sixth-form and pre-sixth-form curriculum founded on A level and IGCSE, all taught in English.

The BSO is based west of the city centre of Oslo on the shore of the Oslofjord, in a stunning historic manor house dating from the end of the 18th century. As we open our doors to our first cohort of students, The British School of Oslo seeks to appoint outstanding specialist teachers to deliver core curriculum courses. The BSO will offer a bespoke curriculum featuring A levels and IGCSEs.

The BSO will offer a uniquely inspiring pre-university experience for students in their final two or three years of senior high school: a future-proof education which will combine the study of ‘gold-standard’ A level subjects with academic enrichment activities designed to prepare students for success at top universities and in their careers following that.  

The BSO will offer an aspirational, inspiring academic programme, with passionately committed educators leading learning experiences which open up the perspectives of students far beyond the classroom, as they develop an ambitious, well-informed, adaptable, empathetic and resilient approach to success in their lifelong career journey.  

The BSO will combine the best traditions of British independent education with forward-looking pedagogy and delivery, allowing our students as citizens of the future to prepare themselves for notable success, and to make their mark in the world for the better.

The BSO seeks an experienced English teacher, able to teach A level English Literature, and IGCSE English Language and English Literature. Experience in teaching other A level and / or IGCSE subjects (such as Drama) might be an advantage, as also would be experience teaching English as an acquired language.

BSO teachers will be expected to:


  • Hold a very good university degree from a renowned university in their main specialist subject, or a closely allied subject;


  • Have experience of teaching their main specialist subject;


  • Have a strong teaching qualification;


  • Hold English, Welsh, Northern Irish or Scottish QTS or equivalent;


  • Be committed to the very highest standards of safeguarding and child protection, in line with all statutory regulations and the best of current good practice;


  • Take an inspiring, imaginative and dynamic approach to every aspect of their work as educators, leading students to a deep encounter with their academic subject, as well as with the wider context for the curriculum;


  • Be committed to the highest academic standards and to outstanding performance for all their students, personally, socially, and academically;


  • Be committed to supporting their teaching with an imaginative, inspiring and appropriate use of ICT and online resources;


  • Devise and implement a bespoke scheme of work in their specialist subject(s), both at A level and IGCSE, when applicable.


  • Be committed to impeccable professionalism, showing the highest standards of respect to their students and colleagues alike, working always as collaborative and supportive team players, earning the constant and enduring respect of students and their families, and participating in continuous professional development;


  • Be committed to the specific context of an independent international school in which every student is at the centre of things, and in which the quality of the student experience is paramount;


  • Be committed to outstanding educational excellence, and to making a significant contribution to the success of The British School of Oslo, promoting the vision of the school at all times, and being a positive role model for the young people whom they teach;


  • Understand how to deliver the best of premium British education with a truly international outlook, contributing to a distinct and distinguished market position for The British School of Oslo;


  • Respect, appreciate and understand the various cultures and societies represented at The British School of Oslo, as well as the cultural values of the United Kingdom and Norway;


  • Contribute wholeheartedly to the wider educational programme at The British School of Oslo, for example: 
  • by giving students pragmatic and expert advice on university entrance; 
  • supervising individual students as they complete their EPQ (Extended Project Qualification); 
  • making specific contributions to a creative whole-school co-curricular enrichment programme through offerings which reflect their wider interests;


  • Contribute wholeheartedly and proactively to the concept of ‘learning without boundaries’ in their specialist subject, seeking out and implementing immersive, inspiring and effective supplementary experiences to teaching in school, such as online lectures and events, museum visits, field trips, competitions, and so forth.
