BIRKDALE HIGH SCHOOL

Headteacher: Mr G Y Bourgade

TEACHER OF ENGLISH (NQT/RQT)

Permanent Full time Contract – September 2019

Birkdale High School is a popular and successful all-boys 11-16 comprehensive Academy with an excellent reputation, outstanding pastoral care and consistently above national average academic results.

The school has seen its numbers rise over the last few years and is officially oversubscribed from next year.

At Birkdale we aim to be leaders in the education of boys and this starts with a clear focus on developing effective teaching pedagogy and not engaging in educational fads or gimmicks. Our development of teaching is driven by a focus on cognitive science and educational research and our quality assurance of teaching is developmental rather than judgemental. Our teachers are given the space and support to make positive changes to their teaching in a risk-free environment; we watch each other teach, share best practice and are eager to accept our professional obligation to improve methods of embedding the knowledge our boys need.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher of English with outstanding potential to join a successful department with committed teachers working as a close built team.  The appointed candidate is required to join the team from 3 September 2019.

Appointments are subject to the successful candidate obtaining a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure (via the Disclosure Barring Service).

Further details and an application form can be downloaded from www.birkdalehigh.co.uk or obtained from Ms Karen Anslow at the school.  Completed application forms should be emailed to recruitment@birkdalehigh.co.uk by 12.00pm on Tuesday 26 March 2019.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place week beginning 1 April 2019.

Birkdale High School safeguards children and actively promotes their welfare.  We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All posts are subject to the acquisition of an enhanced DBS certificate with barred list information through the Disclosure and Barring Service and further checks as required. All teaching positions will also be subject to a prohibition order check.

Activities range from jazz band to badminton, cooking club, hardware club, Christian club and reading club. The garden and wildlife club creates an environment where students can develop their social skills, practical skills and science skills.

Ofsted report

“Most recent academy progress data indicate that there will be further significant improvement at GCSE five A* to C including English and mathematics this year. Boys are making at least good progress and this was confirmed during the inspection through the observations of lessons and scrutiny of current work. Some boys, particularly the more able, are making outstanding progress.”
