Job overview

Role: Teacher of English

Salary: MPS/UPS

Start date: January 2020

Hours of work: Full time

Are you passionate about your subject?  Do you want to teach A level? Do you want to teach in a small community school that knows each one of its children and their families?  Do you want to be involved in shaping a new school and sixth form?  If the answers to these questions are “yes”, then you are the person we are looking for to join our school.

“We aim to know every one of our students well, providing an environment that allows them to achieve what they are truly capable of by promoting both academic progress and a ‘can do’ attitude.”

Our all-through Free School opened in September 2013. We are oversubscribed and experiencing rapid growth in both the Primary and Secondary phases. Our fantastic heritage site has been fully refurbished and provides a unique learning environment. Small year groups enable us to know every child well and personalise their learning. We are forward-thinking, with the freedom to shape our school curriculum in response to the needs of the local community and businesses and we are delighted that Ofsted judged us to be a Good school.

As a teacher in a core area, this is a unique opportunity to share your best practice in English teaching with a highly ambitious learning team delivering GCSE results significantly above the national average.

We expect you to deliver consistently high quality lessons and to ensure no child is left behind in their learning.  We place value on English as it is not only a core subject but key to ensuring students succeed across the curriculum and in their future lives.

Most important is your attitude and approach. You will be:

• able to motivate students and inspire a love for English literature and language

• keen to use new technologies and develop a vision for learning in the 21st Century

• committed to securing outstanding outcomes for all students in your care

• willing to play an active part in enrichment activities

As a growing school we offer outstanding opportunities for development and further promotion. We are a strategic partner of the Oxfordshire Teaching Schools Alliance.

Closing Date: 24th September 2019

Interviews will be held on 8th October 2019

Applications must be made using the Heyford Park Free School Application Form which should be submitted along with an Equal Opportunities Statement. All forms can be found on our website under 'Vacancies'.

Please note that we advise applying promptly as we reserve the right to close and interview early if sufficient suitable applications have been received.

Heyford Park Free School is a small and inclusive all-through Free School that takes students from the age of 4 through to 19 and encourages them to flourish, recognise their strengths and identify their own aims and aspirations.

The school is located at the heart of Heyford Park in Oxfordshire – the site of a former RAF and US Air Force base – and reflects the strong community spirit we have here at Heyford Park.

It is our aim to know every one of our students well, providing an environment that not only allows them to achieve what they are truly capable of, but also equips them with excellent academic qualifications and a ‘can do’ attitude. We want out students to be able to create the right pathway for themselves while making a meaningful contribution to their communities.
